Sneak Peek! The Project Runway Season Six Finale Show

There were a couple things different about this Project Runway finale runway show.

There were a couple things different about this Project Runway finale runway show. First off, yours truly wasn't there. I didn't receive an invite (boo), therefore I hightailed it out of NYC to head back to sunny California — one must get ready for the Oscars anyway. Second, we have no idea how season six shaped up. We're still waiting on the new season to debut, we do know it took place in LA and has wrapped up filming, but the suspense is looming. But at Fashion Week, the finale show went on. Our favorite host, Heidi in a hot-pink Matthew Williamson satin suit, and judges, the fabulous Nina and Michael, did their front-row thing — see speculative faces below. We haven't met the designing contestants, we did meet some of the clothes. I spy a mix of Alexander Wang-inspired, girlie goth, a Siriano reminiscent poof or two, and a couple lovely, silky gowns. It's really hard to judge without the competitive context, but we can still get a taste of what's to come. Nothing groundbreaking, but some good stuff. Let me know what you think!

2009 Fall New York Fashion Week: Marchesa

I knew Marchesa was going to be special when, as I ran into the entrance to escape the rain, Diane Kruger's and my eyes met.

I knew Marchesa was going to be special when, as I ran into the entrance to escape the rain, Diane Kruger's and my eyes met. Only for a nanosecond, as she was on her way back into the rain, she slipped on her shades and was off like Cinderella. Many of the billowing gowns and fairytale frocks inside were fit for princess Diane. It was nasty outside, fantasy inside.

I was a Marchesa presentation virgin and I can never go back. Marchesa, always romantic and enchanting, served layers and layers of tulle, silk chiffon, ribbons, embroideries, bows, sequins, and lace. A celestial theme of shooting stars, sparkle, and unicorns felt fantastical. This lilac chiffon-draped dress with embroidered bodice can easily earn Kate Winslet a best dressed nod at the Oscars this weekend. The shoes, by Louboutin, were satin, super high, and sometimes glittered and laced. While Marchesa's gowns tend to steal the spotlight, a couple pant ensembles were sharp; tuxedo trousers paired with romantic ruffles blouses and sculptured jackets. Smitten yet?

Hair How-To: Coventry Fall 2009 Hair

It can be difficult for young designers to build buzz, but not for Matthew Terry. After stints with Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren, he started his own line, Coventry. Fashionologie has a review of the clothing, but I'm more interested in this beautiful plaited hairstyle. "The idea was to make the girls look as though they'd just come from a long horseback ride," said stylist Pasquale Ferrante, the hair guru who created the look with Davines styling products. Nails

Akiko Ogawa Takes a Twist on the French Manicure

Even though these pink nails were shown for a Fall collection, I think Akiko Ogawa's runway manicures would be a great way to welcome springtime.

Even though these pink nails were shown for a Fall collection, I think Akiko Ogawa's runway manicures would be a great way to welcome springtime. French manicures normally aren't my favorites, but Alisha Rimando created a fresh version by using four colors (Dashing Diva polish in Headliner, Dashing Diva, Cosmopolitan, and Debutante).

New York Fashion Week: Julian Louie Fall 2009

Nothing better captures that post-Prada Fall 08 "tidiness" than Julian Louie's Fall 2009 collection.

Nothing better captures that post-Prada Fall 08 "tidiness" than Julian Louie's Fall 2009 collection. With layers so trim they look like they could be peeled off, or so immaculately buttoned-up the wearer looks like a living-doll, he perfectly articulates what women want to look like by next fall--that is, a more organized, efficient version of themselves. After all, "in times like these" who aspires to look unkept?

It's the final day of Fashion Week, but the front rows are still full of familiar faces.

It's the final day of Fashion Week, but the front rows are still full of familiar faces. At his show last night, Zac Posen's good friend Rachel Bilson was sitting near another newly engaged star, Claire Danes. Nicole Richie was also in attendance next to Alicia Keys to watch the collection. Also showing yesterday was Christian Siriano, who already has his fair share of celebrity followers. Kate Beckinsale sported new bangs and matched Eva Mendes in black while checking out Calvin Klein. This morning, Heidi Klum brightened up the mood at the Project Runway show. Since the season is yet to start airing and no one knows who the contestants are, the three finalists' collections were shown anonymously. Heidi said, "This is [the designer's] moment and unfortunately nobody has seen the show yet. I’m a little bit sad for our designers that they don’t get that recognition today. We’re all in a bit of a limbo." Don't miss Fab and Bella's great coverage as fashion week winds down.

Love It or Hate It

Love It or Hate It? Gray Lips at Doo.Ri

Backstage at the Doo.Ri show, lead makeup artist Tom Pecheux revealed the inspiration for this grayscale look.

Backstage at the Doo.Ri show, lead makeup artist Tom Pecheux revealed the inspiration for this grayscale look. "It's a contradiction between romantic and gothic and punk," he explained. "It's not black-and-white, but there is no color." He used concealer blended with MAC Lip Mix in black to create the sheer gray wash. While it's not a look you'd wear to the office, I thought it was a fresh take on the dark beauty trend. Kind of goth-lite, and vaguely otherworldly. Do you think it's cool?
