Trend Alert: Sheer Bright Lips For Spring

Sometimes runway looks are really extreme, and don't always translate well into the mainstream — as evidenced by this hits and misses slideshow.

Sometimes runway looks are really extreme, and don't always translate well into the mainstream — as evidenced by this hits and misses slideshow. Now that it is officially springtime, have you started to think about how you'll amp up your makeup bag, taking looks straight from the fashion shows as inspiration? Buh-bye to the black lip gloss trend that never really made it anyway, and hello brighter, sheerer shades. Whether it's red, fruit punch or soft coral, a wash of color is flattering and fun.

Take Anna Sui's Spring 2009 show in New York, for instance, where the makeup artists used Anna Sui Lipstick in #400 ($22), a sheer red. And over at Charlotte Ronson, pictured left, it was all about a not-too-glossy punchy pink. Check out some more suggestions for the faint bursts of color below:

Trend Alert: Orange Cheeks For Spring

When you imagine orange on the face you might cringe a little, thinking of unflattering Oompa-Loompa-like effects.

When you imagine orange on the face you might cringe a little, thinking of unflattering Oompa-Loompa-like effects. But you might be surprised that orange blush can give a flattering sun-kissed look that's fresh, not gaudy. Seeing that many designers featured the shade during 2009 Spring New York Fashion Week, I predicted that orange blush would be a trend during the upcoming warmer months.

Makeup artists used MAC Pro Color Base in Devilish Orange at Nanette Lepore and Carlos Miele, and I've got some great color suggestions in my widget below. Tip: Use creamy orange lipstick as a blush substitute.

Which Spring Runway Trend Are You Most Likely to Wear?

In the world of beauty, trends are like a time machine, moving both forward and back.

In the world of beauty, trends are like a time machine, moving both forward and back. While I just returned from the whirlwind of 2009 Fall New York Fashion Week, I'm actually looking back on 2009 Spring New York Fashion Week, which I attended last September. Funny how that works. Glancing back through the various springtime looks, I started wondering about which ones will make the leap from runway to real world. So tell me: Which hair or makeup trend from the catwalks will make it into your warm-weather routine?

Let's see, there were New York Fall and Spring shows, Milan Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, and LA Fashion Week. Oh, and don't forget all of the ravishing Resort and Pre-Fall collections. Fashion Week's Most Fab Attendees

Who, what, where (or wear)?
Fashion Week's Most Fab Attendees

Who, what, where (or wear)? These are the questions people had running through their heads when the Spring Fashion Weeks were in effect. We were mostly focusing on the clothes rather than who dominated the front rows, but let us also dissect the guests. Editors, celebrities, and models get invited to the shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. One lady who always looked amazing was Carine Roitfeld. Here, at the Yves Saint Laurent show in Paris, the Vogue Paris editor gave new meaning to the term power suit. The serious glare also helps. See who else graced us with their fashionable presence over the past month . . .

Fashion Week Quickie: A Kruger Souvenir

Hands down, my best celebrity sighting at New York Fashion Week was Fab favorite Diane Kruger.

Hands down, my best celebrity sighting at New York Fashion Week was Fab favorite Diane Kruger. I don't know what it is about her. No, actually, I do. She's demure and ladylike, but also experimental and youthful. This is how I like to describe my own personal style. And, just when you think you've nailed down her look, she wears something totally fresh and unexpected. She only attended the Tommy Hilfiger show — in mad plaid — and I had direct view of her. If you asked me to describe the Spring Hilfiger collection, you'd get a hazy explanation, because my eyes were struggling to stay on her while taking in the sporty, elegant clothes; it's usually the other way around. While Diane was whisked away too soon for me to catch her, I pulled a fast one and took her seat holder as a Fashion Week souvenir. Care to join the Fab fan club?

Ralph Lauren

Inspired: Ralph Lauren NY Fashion Week 2009

Fashion Week may be over, but we've still got the runway images to gawk over.

Fashion Week may be over, but we've still got the runway images to gawk over. Since we can't sport the new gear 'til Spring, I figured I may as well use it as inspiration for interiors. The Ralph Lauren ensemble shown here is a bit costume-y, but I love its balance of rough, sporty safari elements with glamazon sequins, and its palette of army greens and rustic browns. The Momeni Metro Rug shares the palette but looks luxurious with its ombré effect, so I thought I'd use it as a jumping-off point for a room designed around this Ralph Lauren look. Do You Ever Go Hands-Free?

Agyness ditches the handbag sometimes — she told me so at New York Fashion Week!

Agyness ditches the handbag sometimes — she told me so at New York Fashion Week! It's because when she's on the runway she has so much stuff going on — clothes, makeup, accessories. In her personal life, she's more low maintenance. What about you? Can you do without your lip gloss and BlackBerry once in a while?

New York Fashion Week, Spring '09: Sash Belts

New York Fashion Week, Spring '09: Sash Belts

Belts have been a key accessory the past year. It's clear why: a belt defines a waist, creates contrast, and encapsulates the female form. Even though we saw a belt in nearly every scene in the Sex and the City movie, for Spring, belts have loosened up and taken notes from martial arts. Wrapped fabric, cinched scarves, and obi belts stood out among the belt bevy. Designers presented these styles through many different muses. Donna Karan's subtle obi proved you don't have to be a black belt to be bad-ass.
