2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: L.A.M.B.

Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. shows are always part fashion event and part fan gathering, and last night's was no exception.

Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. shows are always part fashion event and part fan gathering, and last night's was no exception. Hundreds of Gwen devotees packed into Lincoln Center's Theater to see her Fall collection, which was divided into six themes. The action started with billowing smoke and an Apocalypse Now-esque war montage displayed on an enormous screen. The first batch of clothes was clearly military-inspired, with jackets and trousers in olive greens and tans. Next up were ensembles that took clear influence from Rastas, London, the outdoors, mod culture, and glamour. Before sending her models down the runway, Gwen spoke about the varied looks. She said, "Whether it be from me being like a little bit of an English girl, like a little bit of a Rasta girl, a little bit of an Orange County girl, it's like always those same things that come through in the clothes . . . It's just defining yourself through the people that you love growing up." Gwen created her own persona from a variety of sources, and that certainly came through in her latest design efforts.

  • Trends: Plaids, draping, layering.
  • Colors: Orange! Red! Black!
  • Key Looks: A floor-length Navajo-print evening gown with amazing back details.
  • Accessories: Aviators, Rasta hats, silk scarves.
  • Who Would Wear It: Fans of Gwen, Harajuku Girls, those unafraid of bold colors and prints.

2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: Vacca

Fall 2011 New York Fashion Week: Vacca

The product of Italian designer Domenico Vacca's wife Julie, Vacca debuted for Fall an artful, richly textured collection of separates designated for a young, modern woman. The silhouettes were indeed of the moment: sleeveless jackets, slouchy skinny pants, and oversized jackets, but the witty styling is what gave the collection power. Leg-hugging pants were paired with a white tunic and boxy gray jacket; a printed tunic with floor-skimming tails lent a sense of exotic chic to a fitted blazer. The fabrics and details, including velvet, leather and ruching, were a reminder that this line belongs to the house of Domenico Vacca. Overall it was an impressively sartorial showing that gave its established luxury brand background a modern dose of freshness.

  • Trends: Layering, tunics, cropped trousers, velvet.
  • Colors: Red, gray, cream, gray.
  • Key Looks: A red velvet dress with fitted jacket, the printed tunics with jackets and pants.
  • Accessories: Sexy open-toe wedge heels.
  • Who Would Wear It: The woman who takes a thoughtful approach to fashion and plays with proportion.

Gwen Does a Fashion Week Victory Lap With Kingston by Her Side

Gwen Stefani held her son Kingston Rossdale's hand last night following her L.A.M.B.

Gwen Stefani held her son Kingston Rossdale's hand last night following her L.A.M.B. presentation during Fashion Week in NYC. The designer has been in the Big Apple for the last few days, and her recent outing in head-to-toe plaid may have been a hint about the creations she sent down the runway. Her latest collection was full of the print, in addition to patterns inspired by rasta culture and London in the '60s. Kingston is veteran of the shows at this point, as he checked out Edun with his dad Gavin last season. He was also there for Gwen's 2011 Spring/Summer show, when he hopped out of his seat to personally congratulate his mom. Gavin wasn't in the front row this time, but Gwen's father Dennis was there to proudly cheer her on.
