Lanvin delivered deliberately unfinished embellishments like exposed dart seams and raw edges, while Givenchy revived its "greatest hits" prints (think tropics and rottweiler motifs), and Sarah Burton traveled back in time to the '60s English countryside to whip up a cool equestrian-inspired McQ collection. For BCBG Max Azria's 2012 Pre-Fall collection, designers Max and Lubov Azria continued to show off their penchant for asymmetrical hemlines and fluid gowns. Described as, "Slavic soul meets bohemian spirit," the designers created silk chiffon dresses with sheer, pleated, and lace details, encompassing a simultaneously modern, yet feminine spirit. Like last season, handkerchief hemlines and bright neon pops were present and paired with leather fringe belts adding a tough touch to the diaphanous textiles. Rife with textures and layers and dotted with full-bodied prints, Wang marries older references, like 16-button gloves, with newer purposes, like wearing those gloves as sleeves. Rich fabrications feel all the more wearable layered up from head to toe — for every wisp of a dress, she counters with ribbed knee socks, vests, and overcoats, giving us the downtown girl with a flair for Parisian polish.
