Ably Done at Abaeté

We can't help but like Laura Poersky's vision for Abaeté, she manages a kind of upbeat feminine form of dressing without ever feeling cloying. As she told us in our interview beforehand she likes to play with the dichotomies internal to every woman's personality as our own cultural struggles to reconcile what it means to be good or bad, strong or alluring girly or hard. It is this that allows her to transcend her peers in the contemporary bracket.

We suppose that is why instead of being aggravated by her Ting Ting "shut up and let me go" introduction song we wanted to bop right along. It is a kind of cultural marker that is at once accessible to regular women while being just relevant enough to make the ever cranky cognoscenti feel its worth giving it a nod. Gotta keep the downtown kids happy these days, even if they are trendy piss ants.

The collection should make buyers happy, plenty of happy wearable pieces in easy to appreciate colors like pink and blue, styled with colored tights of course to give a nod to the here and now. Her daring one shouldered yellow dress, which we were told to look out for in our interview was a personal favorite. And of course her collaboration with Payless continues to bear fruit. Sure the gladiator is getting a bit played but don't you want a cheap pair in sky blue?

Which Emma Stone Bunny Outfit Is Most Fab?

There are not enough redheads in Hollywood.

There are not enough redheads in Hollywood. There, I said it. Newcomer Emma Stone is taking every carpet by storm in her youthful, experimental getups. And I love her for it. Out and about promoting The House Bunny, she donned favorites like Phillip Lim and Abaete, but also smaller designers. She likes to show leg, but manages to mix it up with accessories and silhouettes, and, most notably, amazing shoes. Patent, zippered, bootied, and colored, she's a girl after my own heart. Alas, which stellar look is the most Fab?

Celebrity Style: Emma Stone

Whoever Emma Stone's stylist is, she's doing a stellar job making her client look sophisticated and cool at the same time.

Whoever Emma Stone's stylist is, she's doing a stellar job making her client look sophisticated and cool at the same time. Keep it coming! For her latest appearance on MTV's TRL, the newcomer continued to look ever the budding fashionista in a purple Abaete one-shoulder top, a bubble-hemmed Yigal Azrouel skirt, and Jimmy Choo peep toe booties. Paper thin gold hoop earrings and bangles finished the look without distracting from the assertive outfit.

Fab Flash: All-Star Designer Trio Creates Supergirl Collection

Supergirl is getting a banging new look.

Supergirl is getting a banging new look. In conjunction with Warner Bros., childhood friend designers Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss, Alice Roi, and Laura Poretzky, are teaming up to create a resort collection under the Supergirl brand. Roi, who's known for her edgy signature line; Lonstein Gruss, contemporary designer for Shoshanna; and Poretzky, owner and designer of Abaeté, will be fusing their talents together into one collection.

“When we were creating the line, we talked a lot about how we would wear it. We all worked to push each other into new directions, which helps us a lot when it comes to our own collections. Laura and I never thought we would be putting Alice’s metal studs on a dress, but mixing those things worked well in the end,” said Lonstein Gruss.

The 35-piece collection, showing at the MAGIC show in Las Vegas next month, will include dresses, tops, jeans, and jackets wholesaling between $23 to $193.

Resort Trippin', Part IV

It's not surprising one of the key colors for Resort is white; and ancestors of: ivory, off-white, bone, and fog.
Resort Trippin', Part IV

It's not surprising one of the key colors for Resort is white; and ancestors of: ivory, off-white, bone, and fog. But this group has enough floral energy to keep the trip from being stark. As well, tailored jackets are toughing up ultragirlie looks — per Abaete pictured. The '70s is shaping up to be a favorite decade; whether Halston-eque (at Derek Lam) or bohemian (at Galliano). Oh, and there are going to be enough flirty dresses to keep all the PYTs happy year round. As for fashion rebel Alexander McQueen, he admits, "There's lot of exposed leg, but it's all very understated luxe and non-PC in a healthy way." Whether under- or overstated, Resort continues . . .

Mandy Moore is just such an adorable celeb. What's not to like about her natural beauty and witty personality? She pulled out all stops the last night at the CFDA Awards in a fabulous navy blue Abaete gown with white detailing. I love this feminine and sleek look on her. What do you think?

Syako likes to play!

Syako likes to play! She decided to take advantage of the boss being out of town and opted for a casual work pairing cropped white pants and a grey sweatshirt topped with an awesome necklace. I can't blame her for being naughty while the boss is away . . . Doesn't she look great?

Here's what she has on:

  • Sweater: Old Navy
  • Tank: Old Navy
  • Necklace: Unknown
  • Pants: Express

Congrats to syako!

Tote Swag

Fashion Week is always more mellow on weekend days.

Fashion Week is always more mellow on weekend days. It's easier to catch a cab, there's no rush hour and a (semi) laid back feel is in the air. Maybe that's what compelled three designers to give away handy tote bags at the shows. The "I Heart Shoes" one is by Payless and was gifted at the Abaete show, the middle one is a beautiful Brazilian beach scene a la Alexandre Herchcovitch and the right one is a cool rain print that was prevalent in Mara Hoffman's collection. I was pretty psyched to have collected three cool totes in one day as I'm totally a tote girl — always carrying reading materials with me. Can you guess which one is my favorite?!
