For the ultimate respite from stormy conditions today, draw your attention to Alejandro Ingelmo's enticing, space-age Spring '13 footwear collection. If you're not familiar with the designer, Alejandro has a knack for melding his Cuban roots with the streets of his current hometown of NYC. The results? Modern, sexy designs that have earned him a spot as one of the top 10 candidates of the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund in '08 and nominations for the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design in '09 and '11. His latest collection highlights provocative lace-up sandals and sexy high heels made out of modern finishes like iridescent metallic and holographic python prints. High heels aren't your thing? Alejandro also created some chic leather and suede kitten heels perfect for office and beyond. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until Spring to get our hands on a pair but for now, check out our three favorite styles below and check out the complete collection in the slideshow. Which one is your top pick?

New York Fashion Week

Chris Benz Spring 2012

>> In a season of bold prints and colors, Chris Benz — who has held both near and dear to his design repertoire from the start — really went for it in his new collection: "It's Andy Warhol's superstars go to Coney Island, with a nod to candy kids."
Chris Benz Spring 2012

>> In a season of bold prints and colors, Chris Benz — who has held both near and dear to his design repertoire from the start — really went for it in his new collection: "It's Andy Warhol's superstars go to Coney Island, with a nod to candy kids." Optic black-and-white circles, blown-up graphic prints in an assortment of brights, and checkerboards of color were mixed throughout. Benz also collaborated with Alejandro Ingelmo on shoes once again — this time high-top sneakers or wedges with a floral motif on the heel.

Alejandro Ingelmo Spring 2012

Alejandro Ingelmo Spring 2012

>> It would be hard to miss the buzz surrounding Alejandro Ingelmo's first New York Fashion Week presentation — not only is the designer a recent CFDA nominee, but his shoes have already traipsed the runways of several major shows this week, including Chris Benz and Helmut Lang. So it was no surprise that tonight, in a darkened room at Milk Studios, the throngs vying to get a peek at next season's offerings were at times five and six deep. And no wonder — placed on glistening pedestals under dramatic spot-lighting, the shoes did not disappoint. There were cage heels in mirror-metallics, layered peep-toe booties with cut-away backs, and gilded leather sandals so shiny they seemed to glow from within. But the real knock-outs? Wedges and sandals trimmed with glittering swaths of raw-cut Swarovski Elements. Click through to see the entire collection — including men's — here.

Sophie Theallet Takes Home 2009 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Win

    >> Last night, with the help of keynote speaker Alber Elbaz, who doled out gems on the perils of success — "It's like a bottle of perfume.

    >> Last night, with the help of keynote speaker Alber Elbaz, who doled out gems on the perils of success — "It's like a bottle of perfume. You smell it, you don't sniff it or drink it" — Alaia veteran and Michelle Obama favorite Sophie Theallet took home the 2009 Vogue/Fashion Fund prize of $200,000 and a year of mentoring.  Fellow nominees Patrik Ervell and Monique Pean were named runners-up, and received $50,000 each plus a business mentor.

In her speech, Anna Wintour said that in addition to the US, Italy, and the UK — which just started a similar talent-nurturing program — she just met with the French minister of culture about mirroring the contest there. "And Brazil, India, Russia, and China aren't far behind."

Theallet Tweeted of her win: "my american dream comes true tonight thanks and much love to all of you!xox."  Cathy Horyn, too, weighed in on the choice:

"The money and the mentoring will help Ms. Theallet because she needs to be able to offer more range in her collection, as well as expand her production options. She has such a distinctly feminine eye, and the skills, that I’ve often wondered why a big retailer doesn’t ask Ms. Theallet to design some blouses and summer dresses for them, using the store’s resources and manufacturing connections."

Videos of the nominees going through the competition and the awards ceremony last night can be seen here and here, respectively.
