Sarah Burton's Pre-Fall 2013 collection for Alexander McQueen draws on nuns' habits and the kind of garments usually reserved for the highest-ranking clergy in the Catholic Church. Most of the looks are rendered in black and white, but not everything about this offering is austere and puritanical. A few evening ensembles have plunging necklines, and the hem of one dress stops mid-thigh. A high-heeled take on the pilgrim shoe and an emphasis on capes add to the religious drama here, but none of that is as dramatic as the final look: a gray cape with an overlay of white flowers.

SAG Awards: Best Dressed
With a fivesome like the one we're about to introduce, it's clearly a tight race to the best-dressed finish where SAG Awards red-carpet glamour is concerned. That's where your fashionable opinion comes into play. We'll give you the styling rundown and you do the (voting) rest. Jennifer Lawrence continued her award-season reign in yet another Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, this time in a dark navy blue, and polished it all off with a gorgeous Chopard diamond necklace. Naomi Watts stunned in an icy gray silver-beaded and embroidered Marchesa confection, which proved both ornate and elegant. Jessica Chastain reminded us of another Jessica — Jessica Rabbit, that is — in her body-hugging, corset-bodiced Alexander McQueen number. The only things more jaw-dropping than the dress were her megawatt Harry Winston jewels. Kerry Washington struck a sleek, albeit edgier, note in a strapless embellished Rodarte gown, only to finish it off with Fred Leighton '50s-inspired earrings. And Amanda Seyfried (another beauty in navy blue) went for all-out glamour in a mermaid Zac Posen gown, tempering the standout look with a Lorraine Schwartz pendant necklace. There you have it: five stylish contenders and one best-dressed title. Who gets your vote?

SAG Awards: Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain just had herself a full-on glamazon moment in fiery Alexander McQueen gown on tonight's red carpet, proving that redheads can indeed wear red — and wear it very well. Both feminine and sexy, it's a gown with all the makings of a red-carpet classic, a perfect fit on a classic beauty, like Chastain, who complemented the dress with soft waves and megawatt Harry Winston jewels. Do you love that the Zero Dark Thirty star went for a more traditional red-carpet style or do you wish she had gone for something more fashion-forward?

Jessica Chastain Picks Red McQueen For the SAG Carpet
Jessica Chastain arrived with a smile at today's SAG Awards in LA. She wore Alexander McQueen and finished off the look with Harry Winston jewels. McQueen is a go-to designer for Jessica; it was also her pick for the 2012 Oscars.
It's fair to say 2013's been good to Jessica so far — she picked up the best actress in a drama award at the Golden Globes for Zero Dark Thirty; had her latest release, the horror film Mama, top the box office in its first week; and has continued to appear in her Broadway play The Heiress. She's up for outstanding performance by an actress in a leading role for Zero Dark Thirty tonight as well, against Rust and Bone's Marion Cotillard, Silver Linings Playbook's Jennifer Lawrence, Hitchcock's Helen Mirren, and The Impossible's Naomi Watts.

Golden Globe Awards: Kate Hudson
This year was one for stunning gold embellishment. First Julianne Hough, then Michelle Dockery, and now Kate Hudson, who dazzled in a black Alexander McQueen gown with gold bead work at the neckline. The long-sleeved black gown was made even more stunning with gold accents on her decorative wide belt (which also flaunted her tiny waist), but it was that sunburst sparkle and keyhole cutout that furthered the jaw-dropping effect. We couldn't steal a look at her shoes, but we did notice a pair of gold stud earrings, which peeked out from her flowing blond locks, and a golden clutch to complement her dress's Byzantine-inspired bead work. Do you think Kate shone on the carpet?

Golden Globe Awards: Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman stepped out in a black crepe gown from Alexander McQueen's Spring '13 collection. Take special note of the amazing gold bee embroidery on the neckline — stunning, right? While you're taking a closer look, be sure to check out the sheer-netted detail on her midsection. With a dress as dynamic as this one, Nicole didn't need to go wild on the accessories front, choosing to wear only small drop earrings and a few bracelets to complete her look. Are you loving Nicole's McQueen look?

People's Choice Awards: Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts hit a golden note in an Alexander McQueen Resort '13 gown that was nothing short of bombshell-worthy. The gilded halter top and black, body-consious, floor-skimming skirt referenced a more nostalgic Old Hollywood silhouette. But, let's be clear, that jaw-dropping backless detail provided a more modern-day appeal. The Impossible actress complemented her stunning dress with a black and gold studded clutch and a multicolored-gem-encrusted collar at the neckline — a double dose of accessorized glamour. Her side-swept hair and barely there makeup rounded out her ensemble with a natural glow. Are you feeling Naomi's Alexander McQueen choice?

Jessica Chastain Ditches Khaki For a Purple Trench Coat
Jessica Chastain was spotted out and about in NYC, but instead of wearing the standard khaki trench coat, she chose a gorgeous purple one by Burberry. Underneath it, she sported black skinny high-waisted jeans and a sheer black tee. For accessories, the actress chose a brown Alexander McQueen bag — shop the black version ($2,259) — as well as Prada flower pumps and oversize vintage-inspired sunglasses. To mimic Jessica's latest outfit, look for a similar purple trench that will keep you warm and make you stand out from the crowd of khaki and black trench coats.

Psychedelic Hedonism: The Trippiest Fashion Videos of the Year

br>
Fashion films often take the form of fawning moving portraits in which beautiful models languish on balmy beaches or in well-appointed mansions, but this year's best stand out for being much more than that. Below, a countdown of the trippiest, most thought-provoking videos we saw in 2012.
br>
5. Prada's Real Fantasies Spring 2012
br>
It should have been clear early on that there was something in the water when this video, which juxtaposes new images against visuals from the '50s and '60s — the decades that inspired Prada's Spring 2012 collection — debuted in April.

4. Prabal Gurung's Spring 2012 Campaign Video
There are only two subjects in this video: an orchid and Candice Swanepoel. A quick pace is set by unrelenting jump cuts between the flower and Swanepoel's lovely face. The soundtrack of a drum mimicking the human heartbeat makes the video even more haunting.

3. Alexander McQueen's Fall 2012 Campaign Video
If David Sims's almost luridly neon Fall 2012 campaign for Alexander McQueen wasn't colorful enough, his video certainly is. It primarily features a loop of model Suvi Koponen taking the oversize visors from the collection off of her face, accented by dancing geometric neon shapes and clouds of pixelated pigment that explode all over the screen.

2. Prada's Real Fantasies Fall 2012
Attempts to explain what's happening in this video are probably best left to the people who created it. From the official description: "Set within a dystopian society of machines and jagged geometries, genetically perfected clones roam digital colonies. Each scene depicts an antiquated landscape within a galaxy of characters engrossed in oblique and possibly deviant power dynamics."

1. Proenza Schouler's Desert Tide
Jack McCollough's sister Kate worked as the creative director for this film, which was created with the virtual world Second Life. Everything in it — from the models who levitate while doing a peculiar dance, to the purple dolphin that swims through sand — is CGI.
