Alexander Wang's Icy Spring '11 Ad — Love It or Hate It?

If you pick up Interview mag in March, or happen to be standing on the corner of Lafayette and Great Jones St. in Manhattan, then you'll see this exclusive ad that, according to WWD, Alexander Wang prefers to call an "image piece." Shot by Craig McDean, the ad features model Aymeline Valade looking pretty fierce against an icy blue background. What do you think of Wang's first print ad?

A Trio of First Ever Print Ads, Including Alexander Wang's; Plus, The Full Spring 2011 Versace Set

>> A trio of first campaigns have popped up for Spring 2011: Shu Pei Qin's premiere ad as a Maybelline model; Peter Copping's first ever Nina Ricci ad image, featuring Malgosia Bela shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin at New York's Greenwich Hotel ("She looks contemporary, modern, sensual — all those things I see for the Ricci woman,” Copping explained); and Alexander Wang's first ever print ad, featuring Aymeline Valade shot by Craig McDean.

Although Wang doesn't like his four images, styled by his show stylist Karl Templer and creative directed by Fabien Baron, to be called a campaign. “We restrained from using those words, because you set yourself up for doing things in a systematic way — like rolling out ads in the magazines certain times of the year,” said the designer, who instead uses the term “image piece.” All those — and for good measure, the full Spring 2011 Versace campaign, featuring Abbey Lee Kershaw by Mario Testino — in the gallery.

Color Combo to Try: Black + Brown

Alexander Wang's Pre-Fall collection gave major attitude, but I'm not mad at it.

Alexander Wang's Pre-Fall collection gave major attitude, but I'm not mad at it. In fact, I'm in love with it. In particular, I'm digging how Wang unapologetically fused two colors that are viewed as arch fashion enemies. Just like black and navy, black and brown is a marriage that can be totally sophisticated. You can also throw in a dark gray piece — like Wang did at the right — to offset the black and brown. I'm definitely jumping on this color combo, are you? Click to shop the pieces above.

Nicky Hilton always proves how easy it is to look chic while running errands. She made her way around LA in a heather gray David Lerner shoulder zip sweatshirt and slouchy distressed jeans and accessorized with mirrored aviators, an amazing Alexander Wag Rocco duffle bag, and a silver spike tennis bracelet from her Nicky Hilton jewelry collection. Alexander Wang can really do no wrong in my book, so I was thrilled to see his supersize Pre-Fall 2011 collection. Aptly titled "Rough Refinement," Wang's offerings showcase modern cuts, smart tailoring, and forward-thinking silhouettes — the collection gives off a cool, downtown-chic attitude, while staying true to the line's feminine sensibilities. With a moody color palette of black, dark brown, and gray, the selection features a welcome addition of sexy sheers, angular lines, and artful draping — perfect for the confident, tough girl-on-the-go. Alexander Wang Provides the "Bread and Butter" Now, "Dessert Later" For Pre-Fall 2011

>> For Pre-Fall 2011, Alexander Wang served up a large helping of what he described as, "rough-refinement." The 27-look collection (his biggest ever for Pre-Fall) was a mix of looser cuts and a hint of feminine touches like sheer blouses and surprisingly enough, flouncy ruffle details. On the footwear front, Wang delivered black buckled booties, ankle-wrap flats, and sharp strappy heels, and there's a new slouchy bag with a metal-cornered base: the Robin. “This [collection] will showcase the core elements,” said Wang, who will show a more directional, edited collection for his Fall 2011. “I’m giving the buyers the bread and butter [now],” he continued, “and the dessert later.”

Trend Alert: Luxe and Cuddly Mohair

Seeing Kate Bosworth in this luxe and cuddly mohair sweater makes us want to reach out and hug her.

Seeing Kate Bosworth in this luxe and cuddly mohair sweater makes us want to reach out and hug her. The oversize fit and nude color make it urbane yet delicate, and Kate toughens up the famously soft knit with lightly acid-washed jeans. Her Winter sweater dressing is impeccable and probably incredibly comfy for a day of shoe shopping.
