Mario Sorrenti, Not Steven Meisel, Said to Be Shooting 2012 Pirelli Calendar (Updated)

>> Karl Lagerfeld, who captured Pirelli's 2011 calendar, is rumored to be succeeded by Steven Meisel for the 2012 edition. (Each year a different photographer nabs the gig — Terry Richardson, Peter Beard, and Patrick Demarchelier snapped the 2010, 2009, and 2008 editions, respectively.) No word on location for the shoot, but Anna Selezneva is said to be among the cast, and the finished product will likely debut at the end of November or beginning of December. [Model Whispers]

UPDATE: The calendar's casting director, Jennifer Starr, just confirmed that Mario Sorrenti, not Meisel, will be shooting the 2012 calendar. [Stylecaster]

As soon as you lay your eyes on Anna Selezneva, Valerija Kelava, and Iselin Steiro doing their badass thing, you don't want to look away, you can't look away. What's especially effective here is that the attitudes and poses match the tough, sexy-chick clothes. Blacks, whites, cutouts, killer heels, leather — these girls make me want them all, now. While Argentina is quickly becoming a new hot spot for model discovery, Eastern Europe (Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, etc.) will always be a mainstay, the bread and butter. That's because the girls are tall, slender, and have looks that could make any model scout melt. Yes, many of the models are super young, but their beauty is undeniable. Take Russian model Natasha Poly for example; she lends mega oomph to the industry. And those cheekbones — sigh. Here are more of our favorite Eastern European models!

>> Steven Meisel co-opted the Twitter phenomenon for the last Vogue Italia issue of the decade — December 2009 — and rechristened Twitpic "Meiselpic" for his purposes.  Inside the issue he wrote to his 20 model "followers" under a blurred portrait of himself — surprising, as the photographer is reclusive and does not like to be photographed himself —"Feeling a touch swine flu . . . so not coming to work today. I'm sending you some clothes . . . wear what you like, Meiselpic it back to me. xxSteven."  What comes next — and is featured on the cover — are twenty pages of model self-portraits in the style of Twitpic.  Lara Stone took the below picture of herself and "Twittered" underneath: "I love my new boobs. Werk!!"  A pregnant Gisele snaps herself in lingerie, covering up her bump, and "Tweets": "Privacy is beautiful!" And Freja Beha Erichsen, who's not known to be a Meisel favorite, makes a surprise appearance, as well.

>> The rain is beastly today, but that didn't keep Trish Goff or Alexa Chung — who arrived with her hair soaked — from the front row; Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi's baby, too, had a front row seat atop a minder's lap.  Anna Selezneva opened the '90s grunge-inspired show, which featured dresses in holographic prints, lots of texture in both the fabric and ruffled panels curving around skirts and pieced onto dresses, and a finale full of highlighter pink. Cut-out wedge sandals finished off every look. Now, the question becomes: who's going to dare to wear the metallic silver Barberella-esque bustier dress?

For Fall '09, Phi created an amazing ad featuring top blondes Anna Selezneva, Sasha Pivovarova, and Natasha Poly. Seriously, when the models and clothes are this hot, photographer Steven Meisel saw no need to add color to this sexy, slick campaign. Check out the beauties wearing Phi's divinely dark moto zip jackets, knit dresses, leather leggings, and sassy miniskirts. It's all very biker-chic with a sophisticated touch. Also, take note of the majorly teased heavy-metal hair — a nod to the '80s theme but not overly so. I like to call it posh punk.

>>  A few seasons ago, Jourdan Dunn made headlines as the first model of color to walk Prada in ten years; Prada is carefully casted and a coup like that can make a model's career.  The same goes for Calvin Klein, except that since CK is so early on in the season, it sets the tone for the rest of the three Fashion Weeks.  This afternoon, Lyndsey Scott became one of the few models of color to land in the Calvin Klein lineup — Jourdan Dunn has done the honors in recent seasons.  Monika "Jac" Jagaciak bounced back from her fall at Herve Leger to both open and close; Addison Gill, Bojana Reljic, and Louis Maselis round out the chosen ones as exclusives — expect to see much more from all.
