It may have been three years ago, but Kanye West will never live down his MTV VMA moment with Taylor Swift — at least, not if Jay-Z has anything to say about it! Jay-Z and Kanye took the stage at last night's BET Awards when their collaboration "Otis" won video of the year, and Jay took the opportunity to have a little fun with Kanye by interrupting his part of the speech — just like Kanye did to Taylor back in 2009. Take a look at the funny moment, plus Beyoncé's acceptance speech and hug with new friend Kim Kardashian, in today's PopSugar Rush!
This year's BET Awards featured plenty of high-flying stunts, colorful characters, and dazzling accessories . . . and the hair and makeup looks were no different. See which stars sported bright lip colors, metallic makeup, and more beauty trends on the red carpet.
Last night's BET Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium in LA, were equal parts celebratory and reflective as the stars in attendance honored each other and paid tribute to Whitney Houston. Beyoncé Knowles looked stunning in Stéphane Rolland and was one of the evening's big winners, as was husband Jay-Z, who made a surprise appearance on stage. Jay and Kanye West took home a couple statues for their work together on Watch the Throne. Kanye's BET date, girlfriend Kim Kardashian, tweeted how proud she was of his "dope" performance. Usher brought the house down with his single "Climax," and D'Angelo made a big return, having not released new music in 12 years.
Perhaps the most memorable part of the evening, however, was the heartfelt tribute to Whitney Houston. Mariah Carey spoke about the legendary singer, and there was barely a dry eye in the house — including Beyoncé, who sang along as she cried — when Whitney's own mother, Cissy, took the stage. Monica also took part, singing "I Love the Lord," while Brandy shared a joyful rendition of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and "I'm Your Baby Tonight." Chaka Khan belted out "I'm Every Woman," and Whitney's Waiting to Exhale castmates joined in on the special occasion. Check out all the 2012 BET Award winners here.
Forget plain neutrals: the trendsetters at the BET Awards opted for graphic and glittery nail art to complement their looks. Just take a peek at Melanie Fiona, who paired black, architectural lines with bright orange, green, and pink polish. On the other hand (pun intended), Tamia (bottom right) chose cheetah-print nail art with varied golden spots on each digit. Finally, La La Anthony (top right) took the term bedazzled to new heights with her fairy dust, faux-French manicure featuring ombré colors. That's a lot of nail look for one red carpet, but these winning ladies are sure to set the stage for what we can expect more of this season.
Not only did Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z walk away with a total of three of the night's biggest awards, the performer also outperformed the night's other attendees as far as dresses were concerned. The new mom showed off her curves in a chartreuse Stéphane Rolland gown, complete with a thigh-high slit, then complemented her awards-show look with glittering Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a pair of sultry nude Givenchy sandals. Add to the look the beauty's natural, full-bodied waves and megawatt smile, and the glam effect was in full force. Click on to see Beyoncé light it up at last night's BET Awards.
Beyoncé Knowles was glowing in a yellow Stéphane Rolland gown as she accepted the honors for best female R&B artist at this evening's BET Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in LA. Beyoncé had husband Jay-Z as her date for the night, and the power couple was seated right next to their close friend Kanye West and his girlfriend Kim Kardashian. Kim and Beyoncé had the boys between them, though they were spotted hugging. A lot of attention was paid when Beyoncé and Kim K were spotted at a Watch the Throne concert together last weekend, and it seems that the women are actually on good terms. On her other side, Beyoncé had her sister Solange Knowles. Earlier in the show, Kanye hit the stage with his GOOD crew to perform their new single, "Mercy," and he also stole the spotlight for a moment with an a cappella freestyle rap. Kanye and Jay-Z kept their hot streak going strong by winning best group.
Kanye West was in head-to-toe white for a win-filled BET Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in LA on Sunday evening. Kanye brought girlfriend Kim Kardashian along for the event, and afterwards she tweeted her excitement over his statues and performance. Kanye joined his GOOD Crew to sing "Mercy" — which includes the now-famous lyric about falling in love with Kim — and he then segued into "Way Too Cold" and a freestyle rap. When Kanye was on stage to accept the video of the year award for "Otis," Jay-Z actually surprised him on stage, poking fun at the infamous "Imma let you finish" MTV Movie Awards moment from a couple years ago. Jay bombarded Kanye with a big hug, to which Kanye responded, "I'm trying to defend your girl!" about the incident. All in all, it was a fun-filled show, and check out lots more of Beyoncé and Kim together at the BET Awards!
Some of the most legendary women in soul, gospel, and R&B music came out at the BET Awards last night, presenting and performing for an audience of musicians who have grown up listening to them. From Anita Baker to Gladys Knight to lifetime achievement award winner Patti LaBelle, these soulful ladies have paved the way in their genres for younger women to make it in the business. See these superstar singers show the love in these sweet, standout moments from the awards now.
It was the 2009 BET Awards this weekend. Did you tune in? If so, you would have definitely noticed five standout ladies on the red carpet. Alicia Keys opted for an embellished Jenny Packham, Beyonce did sequined Balmain, Ciara chose maroon leather, Zoe Saldana continued her clean streak with Calvin Klein, and Adrienne Bailon worked a glam bubble dress. All different, all gorgeous, but who's most Fab?
