You've probably heard the phrase "model's own clothes" thrown around by street style photographers, but at Balmain Spring 2014, models practically wore their own hair and skin. The barest layer of foundation enhanced the complexion with a dewy finish. Mascara was scarce, blush was nonexistent, and the lip look was a rosy pink balm. The hairstyle fell somewhere between beachy waves and stick straight, but the look was low maintenance for sure. With such a bare-bones hair and makeup look, it's clear what Balmain wanted to be the focus of his presentation — the '80s-inspired clothing.
With an ornate ballroom as a backdrop, Olivier Rousteing brought out the softer side of Balmain with a Spring 2014 that calls for an '80s supermodel to rock it. Heavy chains, denim off-the-shoulder minis, and lots of black and white patterns recalled Peter Lindbergh photos, while sheer crystal-embellished skirts and sexy minis are made for today's PYTs. But sheer blouses and a lightened, in-part pastel palette took the aggressive edge off his signature look, making for a feminine, appealing — did we say sexy yet? — collection sure to thrill front-row fan Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and other A-listers alike.
When Gaga's back, she's really back — outlandish outfits and all. After premiering her music video for "Applause" at the beginning of the week, the singer has been making the rounds in Manhattan in an assortment of bold looks. Unlike the costume-y outfits she sported before taking a hiatus from the public eye, this version of Gaga is borrowing from high fashion and wearing pieces we could totally see on other stars (picture Beyoncé in that black and purple mini and Victoria Beckham wrapped up in the glossy coat).
She showed some skin in a white two-piece with cutouts and sheer panels aplenty and flashed even more in a Balmain mini straight from the Fall 2013 runway. The pop star was covered up at times, too, stepping out in a belted patent leather coat days after wearing a fuzzy turtleneck tucked into high-waisted white pants, also from Balmain.
The Lady's style isn't for everyone, but compared to meat dresses and teacup hats, her recent looks feel downright demure. Tell us the truth — do you miss the slightly crazier Gaga?
Our ears may perk up every time we hear The Outnet is launching a new sale, but we stopped dead in our tracks when we found out its latest featured designer: Balmain. That's right, the Parisian superbrand famed for its rocker edge, chic moto jackets, and strong shoulders is offering up some of its most stylish wears for up to 80 — yes, 80 — percent off.
Now, we won't lie, this doesn't make the garments entirely affordable (one of them is a $300 tank top), but there are some pieces that make great investments. One quilted leather jacket is available in a buttery caramel hue, while a sleek body-con green dress, for under $600 no less, is something we can easily see replacing our LBD with for those special girls' nights out. And for when you want to make a statement? A printed, velvet dress — complete with the brand's signature strong-shouldered silhouette — is ready for the taking. Ranging from $300 to $1,671, shop all the pieces at The Outnet now (and we do mean now! These pieces are already selling out), or click through for a peek at our favorites from the collection.
Kate Hudson wore denim –– yes, denim –– on the red carpet last night and pulled it off without a hitch! The blond beauty reached for an embellished denim mini for the premiere of her latest movie, Clear History, and she's not the only one testing out this casual fabric on the red carpet. Amanda Seyfried and Diane Kruger have already tried this out as well! Watch on to see Kate's spot-on style.
After Miley stepped out in a slew of black and white outfits earlier this Summer, we were ready to call a spade a spade: sister had a signature style! Now, with the release of her latest video, "We Can't Stop," she made it official. The singer sports a range of two-toned looks, like tops emblazoned with "dope" and "west coast," and goes monochromatic, too — she rocks a snowy white sports-bra-and-leggings combo before playing in the pool in a black one-piece. The only other color allowed in the mix? Red, by way of super pigmented lipstick.
So where did the look start? Miley wore multiple top designers, each time skipping over the majority of the color spectrum and instead opting for the simple, two-toned color combo (spotted in Chanel, Valentino, and Balmain, from left to right). It's been a year of risk-taking as well, with the platinum pixie frequently picking crop tops and pantsuits — not demure gowns.
The singer's image has progressively gotten sexier as she's moved past her Hannah Montana stage, and fashion-wise, her cropped 'do seemed to usher in a whole new era of envelope-pushing fashion. Whatever the case, we love that she's turned into a dresser to watch.
Miley Cyrus is on a hot streak, with the Billboard Music Awards as her latest reason to stun in something equal parts sexy and rocker chick. Her black-and-white Balmain jumpsuit featured an intricately woven texture and some serious all-over checkerboard print — which meant she needed only a pair of Givenchy heels and a bold red lip to finish. Perhaps it's the bleached pixie cut, being named No. 1 on Maxim's annual Hot 100 list, a little leftover inspiration from her Met Gala getup, or all of the above — either way, Miley knows how to make a red carpet statement these days. Do you agree?
As the Star Trek Into Darkness promo tour unfolds, we're privy to double the leading-lady glamour, all thanks to Zoe Saldana and Alice Eve. Zoe's latest ensemble — a floral-printed Antonio Berardi suit in a black and white palette — is far less fancy than her red-carpet styles, but just as impressive. Before that, at the Mexico City premiere, Zoe stunned in a white Elie Saab jumpsuit, while Alice took a darker approach in her sheer Gucci LBD. Before that, both starlets stunned all over Europe in a mix of Vionnet, Calvin Klein, Balmain, Reem Acra, and Emilio Pucci. To stay caught up on it all, keep clicking.
