American Music Awards: Gwen Stefani

If there is one thing we can expect from Gwen Stefani's red-carpet style, it's the unexpected.

If there is one thing we can expect from Gwen Stefani's red-carpet style, it's the unexpected. From bindi details to crop tops with cargo pants, the No Doubt lead singer is all about channeling her rocker-girl vibe in full force, and tonight's outfit proved to be one cool incarnation. She styled an embellished black-and-white Balmain cardigan over a black bralette top, skintight leather leggings, and a pair of sleek black D'Orsay pumps. As for the finishing touches? Gwen kept it sweet and simple with her makeup and hair, only adding a diamond-encrusted cross necklace for a little extra sparkle. Are you a fan of her AMAs ensemble?

Olivier Rousteing's designs for Balmain are usually bold, graphic, and forthrightly sexy, so it wasn't a surprise to see the strong '90s shoulders and bright harlequin patterns he employed for his Spring 2013 collection come down the runway. Rousteing said he was going for a feeling of "Latin sensuality," and some of his jackets were as heavily embellished as matador costumes. The flesh-baring midriff tops that have been spotted on other Paris runways this week were spotted here, too, most often paired with leather and denim trousers with soft pleats.

For Spring 2013, Balmain went Working Girl — designer Olivier Rousteing, though only 27, was clearly inspired by decades past, and offered up a runway show that could have easily doubled as a George Michael music video. The '80s references were hard to ignore — skinny trousers, crop tops, and exaggerated shoulders were central components of the collection — but so was the painstaking attention to detail displayed on Rousteing's embellished and woven wicker pieces. Jackets, pullovers, and minidresses were done in intricate baroque wicker-weaving and topped with jewels, and the designer also incorporated eye-catching harlequin prints and vertical stripes on low-cut jumpsuits, high-waisted peg-leg trousers, and oversize smoking jackets — lending a nice complement to the overall highly structured aesthetic.

  • Trends: Leather, crop tops, high-waisted trousers, wicker, embellishments.
  • Colors: Black, white, yellow, tan, sky blue.
  • Key Piece: The sheer striped top with leather triangle skirt.
  • Accessories: Woven, peep-toe ankle booties, embellished waist belts, oversize silver hoop earrings.
  • Who Should Wear It: Risk-taking style setters like Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.

MTV Movie Awards: Ciara

Need a quick how-to in red hot minis and seriously stacked bling?

Need a quick how-to in red hot minis and seriously stacked bling? Look no further than Ciara. The sexy songstress arrived in a sizzling Balmain number with a whole lot of edged-up accents. Take note of the dress's silver zipper details on each long sleeve, the added front slit, and a cool safety-pin embellishment at the hip. While Ciara's beachy waves and nude pointy-toe pumps maintained a low-key vibe, it was her stacks upon stacks of gorgeous diamond rings that begged for a double take. With more than 10 rings on hand, and siren attire to boot, the singer was hard to miss. What do you think — did Ciara nail it?

This Week's Best Dressed

The White House Correspondents' Dinner wasn't the only fashion-packed event this week.
Best Dressed Celebrities and Models Week of April 30 2012

The White House Correspondents' Dinner wasn't the only fashion-packed event this week. The Shops at Target launch in New York brought major style, with the likes of Hilary Rhoda, Emma Roberts, and Leelee Sobieski each hitting the red carpet in their casual-chic finest. Balmain celebrated the launch of its new social media initiative with an intimate dinner that brought designer Olivier Rousteing and a bevy of Balmain-clad supermodels: Constance Jablonski, Karlie Kloss, Arizona Muse, and Kasia Struss— just to name a few.

In London, the style set made a strong showing as well. Dita Von Teese and Daphne Guinness turned up to fete Christian Louboutin at a private viewing of the famed shoe designer's latest exhibit, and Poppy Delevigne, Emma Roberts, and Tali Lennox were all on hand to toast Derek Blasberg at Gucci's event in honor of Very Classy. The Women For Women International Gala brought a nice dose of glamour; Mischa Barton, Charlotte Dellal, and Olivia Grant were among those whose red carpet looks made a lasting impression.
