I Want This Wardrobe: Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf

B's mom Elinor has found a new man, and Blair is less than happy with her mother's choice.

B's mom Elinor has found a new man, and Blair is less than happy with her mother's choice. Never one to crack under pressure, she remained fashionably calm as she plotted to break up the lovebirds. Her ivory Bill Blass ruffle halter and black Giuseppe Zanotti satin pumps was the perfect mix of fun and elegance. Blair's statement top needed a simple background; pairing it with a sophisticated short skirt and diamond earrings was perfection. Need I say more?

Peter Som Out For Good at Bill Blass

Som left the brand after his contract expired a week and a half ago to focus on his own label, and Prabal Gurung, longtime second-ranking design director at Bill Blass, will be working with the existing team to produce the Fall 2009 Blass collection.

As previously reported, Som was unhappy with NexCen, the owners of Bill Blass, because he felt they couldn't financially support his creative vision; The Spring 2009 show was scrapped in favor of a retailer presentation, fabric vendors and embroiderers weren't being paid in a timely manner, and according to an industry source, NexCen "knew very little about how to run a luxury brand, much less rebrand one."

NexCen is still trying to sell Blass, a process that is taking longer than expected — just one more reason Som left.  The delay in sale also caused some retailers to pass on the Spring 2009 Blass collection, due to all the uncertainty.  For a brand that could use the money, that can't be good.

Peter Som officially parted ways with Bill Blass, owned by NexCen Brands Inc, and there are horror stories about embroiderers not getting paid to prove it. NexCen scraped Som's Spring 09 runway show, which was when the news leaked that Som would be leaving.

Today we learned ten reasons why we should be shopping again and, more importantly, that Net-a-Porter is opening an "outlet and sample sale priced sister site" called theoutnet.com. This is bigger than Topshop

Moschino celebrates their 25th and Rossella Jardini, the low-profile Creative Director behind the brand, talks about her approach to fashion. Moschino; known for its playful style, and Jardini; who is not impressed with the so-called glamorous life, are a match made in heaven. Unless you call luxury price points glamorous.

Karl Lagerfeld sounds off at the FGI Night of Stars and there are bullet points to prove it. Check out excerpts from his speech here and a photo gallery from the event here.

Peter Som, Bill Blass Still Up in the Air; Anna Wintour Steps In

>> The Peter Som-Bill Blass situation is rather turning into a Nina Garcia and Elle-like saga.

>> The Peter Som-Bill Blass situation is rather turning into a Nina Garcia and Elle-like saga. The latest? Despite Peter submitting his resignation last week, he is now back in talks with Blass owners NexCen about the Spring 2009 collection, thanks to the orchestrative abilities of Anna Wintour.

She coaxed him back on board, "for the sake of the label," which is currently on the selling block, and is much more valuable with Peter Som at the company. A new retention deal was reportedly struck last Thursday; but Som can get out of his contract at any time.

The basis for all the unrest seems to be Nexcen's financial constraints: The company can't support what Som envisioned for Blass. However, the prospect of a Spring 2009 collection shown to retailers only is being tossed around, and if Blass is bought by a company that can lend better financial support, Som is said to be willing to stay.

Peter Som Out at Bill Blass; Matthew Williamson May Have Same Fate at Pucci

>> It's that time again.

>> It's that time again. Right after news of upset at Halston come more shakeups.

Peter Som has submitted his resignation at Bill Blass because he "was unhappy with the control Blass' management tried to execute over his creative aesthetic" and has "been fighting with them since he got there." Emilio Pucci, meanwhile, is rumored to have approached a few design assistants about succeeding Matthew Williamson as creative director.

Peter Som spent one year at Blass garnering positive reviews, and is said to be driven to resignation by Bill Blass’ decision to scrap the September fashion show due to financial woes, while Matthew Williamson has spent three years at Pucci, and is looking to focus more on growing his namesake brand.

UPDATE: According to FWD, Peter Som is contractually obliged to present a Spring 2009 collection for Bill Blass during fashion week, but he is "working furiously" to find a way out of the contract.

This Just In! Peter Som Resigns From Bill Blass

Peter Som has just resigned from his position as the creative director of Bill Blass.

Peter Som has just resigned from his position as the creative director of Bill Blass. The company, which has been under financial turmoil, made a decision to forgo participating in Fashion Week in September. This was reportedly the last straw that lead Som, who has only been with the company for one year, to leave the company.

Representatives for Bill Blass and Som did not return calls for comment. I guess his one stellar Fall collection for the house will be his last.

Update: That Fall collection will not be his last! Apparently he is contractually bound to present his Spring 2009 collection in New York in September. The fate of Som and the house of Bill Blass lay in the hands of the fashion gods. What pray you?

Update: Peter Som and Bill Blass financiers, NexCen, are currently working on resolving their issues. According to a source, Som is upset but willing to work with the company on the 2009 Spring collection which includes showing the collection to retailers in their showroom instead of the runway. The source also believes that Som would definitely continue working at Blass if NexCen is able to sell Blass to an owner that will support Som's vision for the company.

Behind the Seams: Nordstrom Fall 2008 Designer Preview

Seeing runway photos is not nearly as enticing as seeing the clothes live, and Nordstrom's Designer Preview 2008 reiterated that fact.

Seeing runway photos is not nearly as enticing as seeing the clothes live, and Nordstrom's Designer Preview 2008 reiterated that fact. For example, Bill Blass's gray/black tulle-bodice strapless dress — you know, the one Anne Hathaway wore at the Get Smart premiere — literally came to life before my eyes on the catwalk. While I admired it on Anne, I fell madly in love with it that night because I saw the way the bottom half of the dress danced as the model pranced down the runway. Donna Karan, Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Missoni, Valentino, Michael Kors, Peter Som, Burberry Prorsum, Vera Wang, and Versace also each showed about a dozen Fall looks.

The night was centered around the runway, but the pre- and postparty was also a blast. Clothes hanging on tall racks gave guests, including myself, the chance to get up close and personal with their catwalk faves, while champagne and hors d'oeuvres kept us satiated. Oh, and I got to meet the ultimate San Francisco socialite, Joy Bianchi!

Which Anne Hathaway Get Smart Look Is Most Fab?

All eyes were on Anne Hathaway this week.

All eyes were on Anne Hathaway this week. Mainly because she dumped her delinquent boyfriend right before he got arrested — too close for comfort if you ask me. But my eyes have been admiring her range of looks promoting her new comedy, Get Smart. Anne has come a long way in the style category, and I'm enjoying her choices more and more. She can go from prim and proper (more what we're used to her in) to rock 'n' roll (takes a bit of getting used to) to casually luxe — always a winner. Which of Anne's recent Get Smart looks is the smartest? Oh, and most Fab?

Dress Me Up: Resort Lady With a Tramp

Bow-tie blouses aren't groundbreaking, but I've noticed a resurgence of them lately, particularly in 2009 Resort.

Bow-tie blouses aren't groundbreaking, but I've noticed a resurgence of them lately, particularly in 2009 Resort. As always, they're super ladylike, but now they're mating with oversized sequins, hip-hugging skirts, statement shoes, and rounded aviator sunnies. In other words, they've gotten a injection of cool.

This look from Bill Blass's Resort collection exudes this polished-cum-powerful vibe, complete with eye-catching Manolo Blahnik sandals. Make no mistake; this resort lady is no tramp but sure knows how to tramp all over you!
