There's something endlessly intriguing about a black house. It's automatically imbued with such personality. So, it's good that this house's big paint color covers a simple, minimalist, frame. With an open floor design and restrained decor, this home's interior and exterior both look like they put the emphasis on quality living, instead of quantity living.

Right when I saw ddtigreiss's creation, I said, "What a killer color combo." Think about it — on their own, black, orange, and silver are great, but put them together and BAM! In this pairing, black lends seriousness, silver shine, and orange vivaciousness. One hue would not be the same without the other . . . it's a ménage à trois, for colors.

I love too many colors and styles to ever go only black, white, and modern, but I applaud he who has the restraint (and the balls) to do it. I spotted this large Georgian house in Tetbury, a small town in — believe it or not — the Cotswolds, and was blown away. Short of a dab of yellow paint in some artwork and its plush green lawn, the house is all black, white, and gray, and each room is essentially either entirely black or white. This makes matching oh so easy! Is that a cop-out? Beyond that, low-slung, stream-lined furnishings rule, and some modern classics like cowhide rugs and Arne Jacobsen Egg Chairs and glitzy elements like crystal chandeliers and tufted furniture are spattered throughout. It's a very powerful space that's not necessarily what I would personally create for my own home, but I'd kill to stay over a few nights. See more photos and chime in when you read more

Ginnifer Goodwin is one of my favorite characters on Big Love, and she doesn't disappoint off the set either. I love the way that her basic black skirt and sheer top, which she wore at the Dolce and Gabbana flagship boutique opening earlier this week, is given an updated twist, thanks to these unexpected tribal beads.

I was inspired to create a room that employed the same style strategy: basic black, with a tribal twist. In much the same way that Ginnifer has updated her classical black with tribal beads, the Jayson Gilt Kuba Chair ($2,695) is a classically shaped, antique French chair that's been upholstered in vintage African Kuba cloth. If only my wallet were as big as my eyes, I could have everything I desire. Unfortunately, for many of us style fiends, abstaining from shopping is simply not in the cards. So, in these troubling economic times, perhaps the solution to our financial woes isn't to resist, but to acquire at a lower price. Take this DWR Murano Glass Chandelier ($3,200). I adore its delicate, scroll-like glass filigree, and its scale and moody color would make it an instant focal point in my dining room. But, as much as I'd love to, I'm not about to shell out over three grand for the thing, especially when I know there's a more affordable option.
