Call it what you will — a tap pant, bloomers, boy shorts — these shrunken, very sexy versions of the Summer short are here for Summer. When we saw it on the Spring runways of Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc, then Chanel, we wondered if that was something that would ever be seen in real life. Enter Poppy Delevigne, albeit a gorgeous model, but just go with it, wearing one of Chanel's unbelievably charming tap pant suits with a pair of flats. We think there should be a few rules for real-life-tap-pant wearing. Because they're so sexy, they should be paired with more modest items, like a billowy top (the proportions will look great) and always flat shoes or sandals. Even a pair of Keds would add boyish charm. We love the pairs we found — just check out our shopping widget — and want to hear from you: is this something you'll be sporting this Summer?
I was looking for cute Spring bottoms on ShopStyle, and after coming across a bunch of Marc Jacobs styles, it occurred to me: Marc is making some freaky bottoms these days! Skirts, bloomers, pants, shorts are all adorned with crazy ruffles, ethnic prints, and loud colors. Not anything I would come close to. Take for instance these Ruffled-trim Bloomer Shorts ($625) — the antithesis of flattering, right? Proceed to see four more freaky Marc Jacobs bottoms and be sure to also check out more freaky (or fabulous) fodder.
Blink and you might miss vikandala. That's because she fits right into the gorgeous verdant background. Bloomers aren't easy to pull off, but this babe in bloomers does it impressively well. I like how she sweetened the look via a floral blouse and wedge sandals.
Here's what she has on:
Congrats to vikandala!
I see London, I see France...Summer skirts and gymnastic-loving lil girls have been taunted about their undergarments throughout history. If only the beautiful bloomers and fun diaper covers that looked so cute on their tushes as tots worked for older kids too.
Mamas looking for a way to avoid the unnecessary schoolyard antics will consider some of the short-like underwear covers available. Like Monkey Bar Buddies, the fun and fanciful designs of Francie Pants might encourage your adventure-seeker to hang onto the jungle gym for a few more minutes. Each box comes with a little paper doll sporting the covers and encouraging girls to dress them in whatever.
One style of shorts we forgot to mention in yesterday's roundup are the loose, satin shorts we've been seeing around lately. These shorts appropriate the lingerie trend perfectly and could easily be worn now with opaque tights and layers. We recommend this look to the gals who like the bloomer trend but are not quite eager to have an elastic band around their thighs (cough, us). The pairs above in three beautiful colors and all quite reasonably priced!
We've noticed a bloomer trend on the Spring 09 catwalks and now, just in time for New Year's Eve, holiday versions are cropping up. Pair bloomers with opaque tights, strong heels, a cotton basic, and a boyfriend blazer and you've got yourself a chic going-out outfit. This trend, of course, is not for everyone but we will say that those we've seen it on have been women of all shapes and sizes--not just model-sized gals. At any rate, if this is something you might like to try out, there are plenty of options under 100 dollars. Out two favorites are the Silence and Noise Ruffled Tap Pant ($32, left) and the Topshop Sequin Knicker Hot Pant ($50). Better to buy them on the cheap, just in case you change your mind at the last minute...
One way to stand out from the droves of fashion slaves is to flaunt your style in indie designs. While the idea sounds simple enough, originality sometimes comes with a heavy price tag.
Lucky for us, ClothesPin.com is hosting its very first indie designer sample sale. Right now, a slew of items from the site's favorite designers are marked up to 40 percent off. These Cynthia Bloomers ($102, originally $170) are not only Fab, but eco-friendly, too. Who knew bamboo and seaweed could look so good?
There is something about a baby's bum that is beyond adorable. I could watch my tot's dimpled cheeks run around the house all day if it weren't for fear she would relieve herself on the carpet without warning. I usually put a diaper on her and for extra security, a pair of fancy pants.
While I have a handful of covers that come with skirts and dresses, none compare to the classic embroidered bloomers like those from Blueberry Babies. With her name or initials stitched on her tush, I hardly want to dress her in anything else. The precious baby intimates are always a hit and make fabulous newborn gifts.
Let the sales begin! Victoria's Secret is having their semi-annual sale, and this means it's time for you to update your underwear drawer. Bras are up to 25 to 50 percent off and panties are up to 25 to 60 percent discounted.
I've got my eye (and behind) on these Angels by Victoria's Secret Ruffle-Trim Bloomers ($8, originally $12). They would make me want to stay in my underwear all day long.
When it comes to outfitting lil ladies, I'm a sucker for ruffles. And, these bright bloomers from RuffleButts are the stylish way to cover a diaper.
Available in sizes to fit infants and preschoolers, the 100 percent cotton bloomers are $16 and can be embroidered for an additional $8. The holidays are approaching and no lil darling should celebrate without a pair of personalized fancy pants.
