Call it what you will — a tap pant, bloomers, boy shorts — these shrunken, very sexy versions of the Summer short are here for Summer. When we saw it on the Spring runways of Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc, then Chanel, we wondered if that was something that would ever be seen in real life. Enter Poppy Delevigne, albeit a gorgeous model, but just go with it, wearing one of Chanel's unbelievably charming tap pant suits with a pair of flats. We think there should be a few rules for real-life-tap-pant wearing. Because they're so sexy, they should be paired with more modest items, like a billowy top (the proportions will look great) and always flat shoes or sandals. Blink and you might miss vikandala. That's because she fits right into the gorgeous verdant background. Bloomers aren't easy to pull off, but this babe in bloomers does it impressively well. I like how she sweetened the look via a floral blouse and wedge sandals.

I see London, I see France...Summer skirts and gymnastic-loving lil girls have been taunted about their undergarments throughout history. If only the beautiful bloomers and fun diaper covers that looked so cute on their tushes as tots worked for older kids too.

We've noticed a bloomer trend on the Spring 09 catwalks and now, just in time for New Year's Eve, holiday versions are cropping up. Pair bloomers with opaque tights, strong heels, a cotton basic, and a boyfriend blazer and you've got yourself a chic going-out outfit. This trend, of course, is not for everyone but we will say that those we've seen it on have been women of all shapes and sizes--not just model-sized gals. At any rate, if this is something you might like to try out, there are plenty of options under 100 dollars. Better to buy them on the cheap, just in case you change your mind at the last minute...
