Candy Pratts Price Laid Off at Style.com; More Conde Cuts Coming Today

>> It's been almost two weeks of rolling layoffs at Conde Nast — including at Vogue and W — which have mostly been done without releasing names, but now comes news that Style.com has let go two contributors: executive fashion director Candy Pratts Price, who Anna Wintour last year dubbed "Queen of the Internet," and senior features editor Laird Borrelli-Persson.Pratts Price's Style.com contract will not be renewed after it ends in Spring 2010, though she will remain listed as a contributing editor at Vogue, where she is rumored to have spent as much time as she did at Style.com's offices.

Pratts Price's Style.com contract will not be renewed after it ends in Spring 2010, though she will remain listed as a contributing editor at Vogue, where she is rumored to have spent as much time as she did at Style.com's offices. She will likely make the magazine and its counterpart her primary outlet after her Style.com contract ends; Borrelli-Persson, meanwhile, is expected to remain at Style.com through the end of the year.  The layoffs may have to do with Style.com being folded into the new-and-improved Vogue.com, although there has been no confirmation of that possibility.

Unfortunately, these cuts aren't the last at Conde Nast — word is, more are coming today.

Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson Help AmfAR Launch the Fashion Week Storm

>> Last night, editors and models alike gathered at Cipriani to simultaneously launch Fashion Week — officially — and benefit one of fashion's favorite causes: AIDS research foundation amfAR. Anna Wintour presented and Donna Karan received an award for her contribution to amfAR's mission; Lara Stone, Caroline Winberg, Jessica Stam, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Lily Donaldson, and Anja Rubik (with boyfriend Sasha Knezevic) all got gussied up and came along for the ride. Afterward, there was a mass migration to Rose Bar, where they were joined by Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Giovanna Battaglia for a little enjoyment of the calm before the storm.

ACE Awards Go Green for Stella McCartney

>> At last night's annual Accessories Council ACE Awards, Nicholas Ghesquiere may have been awarded Designer of the Year, Sally Singer the Marylou Luther Award for Fashion Journalism, and Tamara Mellon's Jimmy Choo the Brand of the Year, but Stella McCartney was awarded the most special treatment.

The designer, who was flanked by Helena Christensen, Coco Rocha, and Dean Koons and anointed with a new award, Green Designer of the Year, had her table completely set with salads while everyone else had "a decadent lobster plate."  And out of respect for her vegan views, even her award — a Judith Leiber miaundiere — was made green, with a black hemp lining in leather's stead and no stainless steel plating.  Such attention to detail kept Stella in a high mood — she joked as she accepted her award, "Little did I know that my award would be second to last and I would need to use the ladies' room after putting on my unitard outfit. But that's life!"

Fab Read: American Fashion Accessories

As the executive fashion director of Style.com, it's safe to say Candy Pratts Price knows a thing or two about accessories.

As the executive fashion director of Style.com, it's safe to say Candy Pratts Price knows a thing or two about accessories. Lucky for us, she's decided to put her years of expertise in one beautiful book, American Fashion Accessories ($32). This Assouline edition is filled with beautiful images of accessories, many of which were created from members of the CFDA.

Photos date from the early 1900s and range from witty Hollywood hats to Madonna’s rubber bracelets. It's more than a look book, it's pop history!

>> It's t-minus three weeks until the Spring 2009 fashion weeks get under way, and Style.com is getting ready to kick it into high gear.

Come the beginning of September, Candy Pratts Price won't be the only one with an avatar on the site — Lily Donaldson, Margherita Missoni, Chanel Iman, Jefferson Hack, Leigh Lezark, and Tinsley Mortimer are all signed on to provide front row play-by-play during fashion month, earning themselves each their own — hopefully cartoon — avatar.  If that isn't enough for you, Coco Rocha will also be playing video reporter from the tents and backstage during New York Fashion Week.

And this one is for all of you who hate waiting until midnight for all the runway slideshows to be posted: Style.com editor in chief Dirk Standen promises the images will be published faster thanks to updated technology, and viewers will have the option to see the shows in a full-screen format.

Anna Wintour Says "Fashionista" with a Twirl of Her Fingers; Plus, More From the CFDA Awards Videos

>> We covered most of the highlights from Monday's night CFDA Awards yesterday, but today come the videos shown to the audience.

>> We covered most of the highlights from Monday's night CFDA Awards yesterday, but today come the videos shown to the audience.

First up?  The Mike Figgis-directed tribute video to Style.com's executive fashion director Candy Pratts Price, which contains such gems as Kate Moss, dubbed over with a man's voice, saying (what I assume is a quote from Candy): "You haven't got a Birkin, oh my god, you have to have one, we're going straight back to Hermes now."  Also, Anna Wintour, describing Candy:  "She is a fashion character . . . a fashion . . . nista."  A word which I never imagined to come out of Anna's mouth, but it does, and she simultaneously twirls her fingers for emphasis:

Then, the Douglas Keeve-directed spoof of HBO's In Treatment, which was used to introduce the Menswear Designer of the Year nominees — Tom Ford, Thom Browne, and Michael Bastian.  Only Tom Ford's clip is to be found, but Tom sobs, sips a martini, and vents to therapist Gabriel Byrne with all the gusto you would expect from Tom Ford.  It's like a peek at the Hollywood Tom Ford, when he left fashion to direct films, which never really happened . . .
