Capes are such a fun way to dress up an evening look. I've actually collected a few, mostly faux and all vintage, in my lifetime. This Anna Sui Mongolian Fur Cape ($1,575) is interesting, to say the least. The thick fur is sure to keep you warm, but doesn't it remind you of Cruella De Vil?

As Fall slowly but surely creeps up on us, it's good to think about how you'll cover up once the weather turns chilly. How about with this Tweed Cape Coat? I have one friend who always loved capes. She sported an awesome black vintage one in the dead of winter before they were even trendy — though they are sort of classic — and she looked immaculate. She would wear it with black skinnies and vintage shoes, to give the cape some street cred. So, for those not ready to be a caped crusader you can do as my friend did or go minimal like at Jil Sander. Or, you can make up a mysterious look all your own — always encouraged.
Though I already told you about this Fall's hottest coat trends, there is one cute, cutting-edge style I forgot to mention: short capes. Though capes are traditionally armless and bulky, these modern variations are more like coats, with cropped waists, big buttons, and delicate sleeves. A cape is also more timeless than you might think; you can always get away with throwing on a cape for a dressy evening gathering. Here are some of my favorite capes right now.
