Alexa Chung made a case for one of Spring's hottest trends — the ladylike suit — at last night's Big British Invite launch, proving that this chic pairing isn't just for the office. Just how did she manage to turn a day look into something totally evening-appropriate? It's all about styling. The It girl smartly paired her lemon-yellow Carven flared skirt and matching cutout blazer with a semisheer top for added edge, then accented her party attire with black suede pumps and a matching clutch. For a whimsical finish, Alexa topped off her look with a jeweled pineapple brooch and pretty pink lips. You, too, can try out the trend for yourself, and here's how.

Start off with a chic suit. Lighter, brighter hues are ideal for the season — and also keep in mind that flared skirts add an extra-youthful spin to the overall look.
The blouse is key. Take cues from Alexa and style your skirtsuit with a chic sheer top, or if you're looking for something more casual, try pairing your skirtsuit with a slouchy tee.

Carven Fall 2013 was shown against a backdrop of vintage car taillights, and the motif reappeared on the closing looks of the show. Guillaume Henry went for colors normally associated with Spring for much of the show, with voluminous coats with oversize rounded shoulders and mod bouclé skirtsuits in shades of robin's-egg blue and cotton-candy pink. Heavy rubber-soled Mary Janes grounded the looks while ruched ladylike bags played off the tonal zebra prints. Get revved up and click through to see the best of the show inside.

At the Grand Palais, against the backdrop of six old cars, Guillaume Henry sent out a Fall 2013 collection filled with pastel hues and supertactile wools. Silhouettes were less buttoned-up than we've seen from the designer in recent seasons, with jumbo coats (some with huge collars and swing backs), cutout necklines, and A-line skirts dominating most looks.

Structured silhouettes in inky tones and tawny shades dominated Guillaume Henry's Spring 2013 collection for Carven. Hourglass blazers — many with heart-shaped cutouts at the midriff — were a big story here; those topped everything from lushly flared skirts to jaunty ankle-length trousers. And while the color palette and fabric choices — leather, wool, tweed — may have been less whimsical than we've come to expect from a designer who's made Carven synonymous with kinder-chic, there was still plenty of playfulness on offer; a series of dresses and suits done in toile safari prints in navy and red were especially endearing.
