Upcoming Biography Claims Coco Chanel Did Drugs, Was Bisexual
>> Many a biography and biopic have come out delving into bits and pieces of Coco Chanel's life, but an upcoming biography is said to have unearthed some new details. With the release of Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life, out Nov. 10, biographer Lisa Chaney claims to have concrete evidence that Chanel used drugs, embraced bisexuality, and had an affair with Salvador Dali while he was married. Chaney, through an email from her publicist, also says she accessed documents in the Swiss Federal Archives that prove Chanel’s German lover Hans Gunther von Dincklage spied for the Nazis throughout World War II. “Whether Chanel was aware of this is unknown, but after that war she lived in neutral Switzerland for a while, to avoid any proceedings against her,” the email noted. Manicure Monday: Chanel Le Vernis in Peridot
Check out Chanel's latest "It" polish, a gorgeous gold and green holographic shade, featured on OnSugar blog Beautopia:
From the Fall 2011 Illusions d'Ombres collection from Chanel comes Peridot, which is one of three polishes available. I very seldom cave in and buy Chanel polishes unless they seem very unique. The last two I've bought (Kaleidoscope and Paradoxal) met these requirements for me and I was very pleased with them, so I went ahead and jumped; and as usual, I'm glad I did.
Want to see more? Be sure to check out the rest of Beautopia's post to learn application tips and to view the multitoned polish from various angles. And when you're through, why not start an OnSugar blog of your own? We'd love to feature you right here on Bella.
Double Cuffs
>> For the past few seasons, the double cuff trend has been making waves — both on and off the catwalks. Though the look is hardly new (Coco Chanel did it in the '30s, Diana Vreeland in the '60s), Kate Lanphear, Amanda Brooks, and Taylor Tomasi Hill co-opted it a few seasons ago and it's been full-speed-ahead ever since. On the runways, Céline styled models with double cuffs for Fall 2010, and most recently the look popped up again at several key Resort 2012 collections. Here, we've tracked the chicest incarnations of the look through recent seasons — and gathered up a few pieces to help you steal this styling trick for yourself.
Karl Lagerfeld Delivers a Dark and Decadent Collection For Chanel Fall Couture
Karl Lagerfeld showed a dark and decadent collection for Chanel's Fall 2011/12 couture show last night at the center dome of the Grand Palais. A stark contrast to last year's pastel-filled collection, Lagerfeld focused on darker hues, save for the occasional injection of dark beige and fuchsia, creating suit sets and gowns befitting of Coco's femme-meets-masculine style. Boxy, peplum-embellished suits made in the house's signature black and white tweeds took the forefront for daywear, while column gowns adorned with a mix of soft, feathery embellishments, beads, ruffles, and tiers provided a magical outlook on eveningwear. As Karl told WWD, “a lot going on,” but in all the right places. Take a look at the whole collection in the slideshow, then tell us what you think.
Diane Kruger Steps Out in a White Gown With Joshua Jackson For Chanel
Diane Kruger had Joshua Jackson by her side at the Chanel Haute Couture show in Paris last night. The couple was among many fashionable faces at the presentation including Elle Fanning, Alexa Chung, and Milla Jovovich. Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson went shopping in France just last week, and Diane wore cutoff shorts and a leather jacket for the outing. It was a casual moment for Diane, who has been dressing up and stepping out at numerous events recently. She joined Marc Jacobs at the amfAR Inspiration Gala in June and shared the spotlight with Joshua at Jaeger-Lecoultre's 80th anniversary bash a few days later.
Chanel Fall 2011 Couture
>> While Riccardo Tisci is having a white moment, Karl Lagerfeld is continuing his play with the dark. Held at 10:30 pm, after the Paris dusk had faded to night, the Chanel show, called "Les Allures de Chanel," was dominated by blacks, greys, and midnight blues (save a couple of pops of fuchsia). The set this season featured a statue of Coco Chanel placed atop a neon-lit rendering of the Place Vendome column, and for the finale, the toecaps of the models' boots lit up. Lagerfeld said his focus for the collection was "a play on masculine-feminine — pairings of straight up-and-down silhouettes, versus curvy ones, cut from the same fabric." He continued: "I like the idea of metamorphosis — a female evolution from boyish to woman."
