Club Monaco Is the Best Online Retailer of 2012!

There were many noteworthy online retailers that opened up for virtual business this year — check out the list here — but you know how it goes, there can only be one winner.

There were many noteworthy online retailers that opened up for virtual business this year — check out the list here — but you know how it goes, there can only be one winner. And this year we're happy to announce that it's Club Monaco! The brand opened its proverbial ecommerce doors at the end of March and has been serving up understated style to both men and women ever since. Amid all this, Club Monaco also produced many inspirational lookbooks: Fall 2012 referenced Scottish luxury, William Morris prints, and art nouveau, and Spring 2013 offered up cool-girl wares inspired by a New York state of mind. What's more, the retailer collaborated with Mayle on a collection of awesome bags, too. Given all that, we think this win is very well-deserved. Congrats to our friends over at Club Monaco!

Best of 2012: Online Retailer of the Year

Online shopping continued to rock our fashion socks off in 2012.

Online shopping continued to rock our fashion socks off in 2012. Our new favorite sites in 2012 included Club Monaco, which debuted its ecommerce portion in March; Uniqlo, which opened a US ecommerce site in October; J.Crew Factory, which also got started up in October; Aritzia, which debuted at the end of November; as well as Moda Operandi and Rent the Runway. We loved Club Monaco's sleek look and even sleeker designs, Uniqlo's minimalistic aesthetic, Moda Operandi's fabulous access to preorder covetable designer wear (and now buy in-season as well), J.Crew Factory's amazing discounts, Rent the Runway for allowing us to borrow, not buy, designer dresses, and Aritzia for finally bringing its must-have Vancouver designs to America. So now it's time to vote. Which online retailer do you think deserves the retailer of the year award?

Club Monaco Holiday 2012 Collection

Come October, the Club Monaco girl will be trading in the California breeziness of September with something a bit richer: heavy knits, Highlands-inspired plaids, and a nice helping of cashmere. The brand is calling it "Scottish luxury," but with its bevy of wallpaper prints (some of which evoke iconic UK wallpaper-maker William Morris), brocade patterns, and '20s-tinged embellishments, we're guessing you'll call it exactly what you want to wear this Fall. Club Monaco has all of that — and more. The latest lookbook is filled with dressing inspiration for the seasonal shift, and more importantly, pieces we can't wait to nab once they hit stores. Tailored wool coats, textural feathered vests, plaid trousers, and knit skirts — inspired by Scottish luxury, William Morris prints, and art nouveau — are just what we need to get into the cool weather mood. Club Monaco Fall 2012 Lookbook

>> Club Monaco's recent penchant for West Coast ease continues into Fall 2012. This time around, however, the California breeziness gets tempered with a hint of structure in the form of prep school blazers, cropped trousers, no-nonsense button-ups, and militaristic parkas. Block prints — inspired by those of Sonia Delaunay — dapple fit-and-flare dresses and boxy blouses, while argyle knits and zigzag stripes lend free spirited charm to ponchos and pullovers. The collection starts trickling into stores and clubmonaco.com this July. Until then, peep it all — as modeled by Suzanne Diaz and Nicola Haffmans — right here.

Club Monaco just released its Fall lookbook filled with two-toned tweed blazers, printed trousers, and plenty of pretty blouses to take you into the chillier months ahead. The collection, inspired by Linda McCartney’s Life in Photographs, the leading male characters in the Silent Generation, and block-print patterns from Jewish-French artist Sonia Delaunay, focused on tailored pieces with a casual twist via pajama-like cropped suit sets, multicolored silk striped dresses, and graphic-printed separates tempered with chic blazers and tweed jackets. Read below for our favorite looks, then click the slideshow to see Club Monaco's complete Fall collection.

  • This green silk maxi dress is perfect for pairing with ankle boots in the warmer months, then layered with a cozy turtleneck and blazer when it gets colder outside.
  • We love the idea of styling louche printed trousers with a streamlined blouse and sleek jewels for a day at the office.
  • Tweed never looked so good thanks to this sleek blazer rendition, especially when paired with a simple pencil skirt and blouse.
