The Covet List: Jason Wu Cocktail Dress

The Piece: Jason Wu Strapless Ruffle-Front Dress
The Investment: $2,550
Why We Covet: Hello, beautiful. We love, really, really love, Jason Wu's feminine and delicate take on womenswear. The dress is gorgeous and sexy from afar, but get up close and that's where you see how special it is. The silk organza dress has a black tulle-covered bodice, and the layered skirt at the waist falls into a gorgeous lace and organza ruffle down the front. The combination of feminine details — lace, boning, ruffles — with the nude, blush, and black colors make this one dreamy and completely sophisticated dress.

Shopping: Draped Party Dresses

Nothing says festive evening quite like a few sequins, velvet animal print, and draped detailing. To help you decide what to wear now that your events calendar is filling up, we've picked our eight favorite cocktail party looks in the gently draped category (which is pretty flattering on most). From vibrant jewel-tones (Yves Saint Lauren), to anything-but-basic black (Michael Kors) and full-on sequins (Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and La Petite S*****), here's to a well-dressed party season.

Love It or Hate It? BCBG Open Back Cocktail Dress
The retailer that sells this BCBG Open Back Cocktail Dress ($298) describes it as sexy, and that certainly isn't a lie. Observe — it has an open back, open sides, and a keyhole in the middle. The color is gorgeous and the draping lavish, but I would have liked it more if the sides were covered. Am I being too modest?
