Karl Lagerfeld is a busy man, but he's found time to team up with Hogan for a one-off Spring 2011 capsule collection. "For Hogan, he [Karl] will reinterpret all the iconic elements in both apparel and accessories, which will help raise Hogan’s visibility in Asia and especially in China," said Diego Della Valle, longtime friend and CEO of Tod's SpA, which owns Hogan. The brand will open its first flagship in Shanghai this Fall.

Here is a sneak peek of the collaboration — army influences, layers, and crisp jackets abound. What do you think?

Best of 2009: Favorite High/Low Designer Collaboration

High/low designer collaborations have been in full force for a few years now — with H&M being the innovator.

High/low designer collaborations have been in full force for a few years now — with H&M being the innovator. A designer bringing its goods to the mass market is commonplace now, leaving most of you wanting more. We saw some impressive collabs this year, most notably were Erickson Beamon for Target, Matthew Williamson for H&M, Rachel Roy's super-cute Macy's collection, Anna Sui for Target, and most recently, the sizzling Jimmy Choo for H&M. If you recall, one of these put me in a serious shopping frenzy — but which one got you into the store looking for more?

Are Mass-Market Designer Collaborations Passé?

By now, every fashion fan has dipped her wallet into at least one high/low designer collaboration.

By now, every fashion fan has dipped her wallet into at least one high/low designer collaboration. Take your pick — Target Go International, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Mango, and so on. The latest one, between Liberty of London and Target, will produce a limited-edition collection of fashion and home goods for March 2010. With the amount of high and low partnerships out there, it begs the question: Is the market saturated? Are you over it? On one hand, it's great that the budget conscious can afford designer, but adversely, it's hard to keep up! What do you think?

Fab Flash: Designer Collaboration Double Whammy

Y'all ready for this?

Y'all ready for this? First, next up for Target GO International: Bing Bang jewelry designer Anna Sheffield. You may recall Anna already teamed up with Urban Outfitters and Bensoni for a couple jewelry collections, word is she's next on the roster at our favorite cheapo retailer. Sweet. Stay tuned for more details on Anna Sheffield for Target . . .

In equally awesome news, Macy's is jumping on the designer collaboration train. The retail giant tapped Rachel Roy to create an exclusive line dubbed Rachel Rachel Roy. According to the designer, "This line is the younger sister to the Rachel Roy collection. It has the same designer sensibility but with a younger feeling." The line includes clothing and accessories — my eye is already on these colorful lace-up oxford booties. Product will hit stores in August, and a new retail concept is being applied. Roy's sister collection will be displayed in pop-up sections within Macy's with unique fixtures, separate from everything else. Smart — this way, you can't miss it. And you don't want to miss it. By the looks of it, Roy delivered her eclectic ladylike vision to the new endeavor; fur vests, artsy prints, rich embellishments, and playful separates make up the mix.

Fab Flash: High/Low Designer Collaborations at an All-Time High

During dismal economic times, designer collaborations are the way to go.

During dismal economic times, designer collaborations are the way to go. “We’re definitely going to see a lot more of these high-low marriages,” said Valerie Steele, of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. “People are going to want a lot of fashion for their buck.” With that said, now is the time to nab a creation from your favorite high-end designer for a fraction of the price.

For example, J Brand has teamed up with Hussein Chalayan to create an exclusive denim line. “The opportunity to work with Hussein brings both brands to another level,” said Suzy Crippen, of J Brand. “It is all about business. The business of making something beautiful, a collector’s item you can afford, like a cheap Picasso.” Affordable designer goodies? That's always been the Fab way to go . . .

Henri Bendels has announced it will be launching a limited 150 double cardigan sweater collaboration with Victor Glemaud. Traditionally a menswear designer, this will be the first time that Glemaud tackles womenswear. The sweaters will come in three combos, pale gray and bright pink; black and charcoal gray, and camel and leopard print. The 100 percent cashmere sweaters are accented with shiny gold buttons and will retail for $348 each starting this August. Alexander Wang

Collab Mad: Alexander Wang Poised For Uniqlo

Prepare for total chaos.

Prepare for total chaos. The highly anticipated guest collection by Alexander Wang for Uniqlo is poised to hit stores by the end of May. Pictures of the collection have started to circulate, so expect a building sense of consumer anxiety over the next two months. As big business and hot designer collaborations go, this one is about as brilliant as Kate Moss for Topshop. That is, many of Wang's fans are those more likely to recreate his aesthetic with thrift store finds, given the retail price. It's a safe bet, then, that Wang's collection for the Japanese retail chain will sell out immediately. With eight exclusive looks priced between $29 and $79 dollars, Wang fans will have access to this sliver of fashion history, just as long as they're able to wait in line.
