Look to any part of Diane von Furstenberg's story and you're bound to see some variation of the line "I always wanted to live a man's life in a woman's body." Is it any wonder then that for Pre-Fall 2013, the designer took traditional menswear tropes and adapted them for the female form?

Von Furstenberg said she was thinking about Mick Jagger, and specifically about how he dressed when he was with Marianne Faithfull in the late '60s. You can see that in the prints here, all borrowed from men's neckties, and the energy behind some of the suiting. The bold graphic pop of a black and white skirt paired with a matching, asymmetrical cardigan jacket is decidedly masculine, even if the shape isn't.

This is the first collection from von Furstenberg since creative director Yvan Mispelaere left the brand in September, and the richness of his color mixing is noticeably absent. The palette sticks mostly to black, white, cobalt, and yellow, and there are a few pieces in appealingly dark shades of red — but even those tend to be monochromatic. Still, they're sure to come in handy for the transition to Fall, and so are the quietly colorblocked coats on offer.

DVF Wants You to Bid on "Amazing Fashion Experiences" For Sandy Relief

br>
When Diane von Furstenberg speaks, people tend to listen. And hopefully her new PSA for an online auction benefiting the victims of Hurricane Sandy will get people to open their wallets, too.
The CharityBuzz auction is a partnership between the CFDA and Vogue and includes some "amazing fashion experiences," von Furstenberg says in the video. "You can have lunch with me, attend a fashion show with Anna Wintour, or meet Michael Kors." Proceeds will go to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and other relief organizations in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Current bidding on a week-long stay at Tommy Hilfiger's private estate in Mustique stands at $21,000, and one donor has ponied up $16,000 to attend next year's Met Gala with Wintour and Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton. But there's still time to bid on those and other lots, like the chance to attend Victoria Beckham's Fall 2013 show, or to take home the entire Prabal Gurung for Target collection before it reaches stores. The auction closes on Dec. 5.
Selena, Lena, and More Win Big at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards
Glamour hosted its annual Women of the Year Awards at NYC's Carnegie Hall last night. The magazine's editor in chief, Cindi Leive, presided over the show, which acknowledged powerful ladies and their accomplishments from the last year. Top honors went to recently single Selena Gomez, who made a heartfelt and simple acceptance speech after her Getaway costar Ethan Hawke praised her many talents. Chelsea Clinton was on stage to recognize 20 female politicians, while Anna Wintour feted photographer Annie Leibovitz and NPR correspondent Nina Totenberg sung the obvious praises of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The evening's funniest moment came during Chelsea Handler's tribute to Girls creator Lena Dunham. Lena thanked her pal Chelsea, but then proceeded to take off her uncomfortable shoes. Lena memorably said, "Behind every woman of the year is a group of people who have been taking the woman's sh*t for much longer than that." Pharrell Williams was one of the few men at Carnegie Hall, and he passed a statue to the iconic female architect Zaha Hadid. Additionally, Lauren Hutton took the stage to reward the talents of J.Crew's executive creative director, Jenna Lyons. In her speech, Jenna touchingly spoke of how she overcame her own teenage awkwardness and now aspires to help others do the same. These honorees were just a handful of those winning big last night — check out the full list of Glamour's Women of the Year.

Anna Wintour, DVF Speak Out Against Chris Burch

br>
Two very powerful women have made a very public showing of support for Tory Burch, whose ex-husband Chris Burch sued her last month over disputes between their businesses.
"The person who has been at every single appointment over the years is Tory," says Anna Wintour in the December issue of Vanity Fair. "Tory is the one who has always talked to us about her aspirations, and her ideas for growth, how she saw the brand, asked advice on people she might want to bring in — it's always been, as far as we're concerned, 100 percent Tory's business, and we've never had anything to do with Chris."
In his suit, Chris accuses Tory and her management team of interfering with the development of Chris's year-old retail concept, C. Wonder. It also tries to guarantee that Chris will be able to sell his shares in Tory's company and asks that Tory be removed from her own board of directors.
Rumors circulated for months that Tory would sue Chris because of similarities between C. Wonder and her designer label, which they founded together in 2004. Chris beat Tory to it when he filed his suit in October. But Diane von Furstenberg says his attempt to sabotage Tory's business won't prove successful.
"What I find bizarre and nasty, and can't possibly finish well for him, is that he is . . . hurting [her business] by sabotaging it, by copying it," the designer said. "I don't understand."
