Elie Saab can always be relied upon for drama, glamour, and sparkle. His Fall 2013 Couture collection included heavy dosages of all three, with an array of full-length gowns in emerald green, navy blue, a deep red, silver, and cream. In past seasons, this house has been praised for gossamer gowns that look and feel lighter than air. But some of the dresses Saab showed Wednesday felt weightier, either because they were cut from thicker fabrics or because they featured intricate decorations. Still, whether sheer or thick, these gowns are undeniably gorgeous and completely covetable.
The word "couture" gets thrown around quite a bit, but in reality it's a term reserved for a rarity of occasions. Haute Couture is a name protected by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and limited to a select group who qualify for the distinction. Which is why the semiannual Paris Haute Couture shows, starting once again with the Fall collections on Sunday, are such a brief and exciting period!
Houses including Chanel, Giambattista Valli, and Elie Saab (as shown from left to right) create spectacles with ornate and intricate hand-stitched made-to-order work. So what techniques in particular should you be looking out for on the runways? Find out— and zoom in on all the embellishments — in the gallery!
Tiffany & Co. hosted its 1920s-themed Blue Book Ball in NYC last night, which in turn inspired a seriously glamorous attendance list. Falling in line with the brand's theme and signature color, Kate Hudson stunned in a strapless, Tiffany-blue Reem Acra Resort '13 gown and sparkling diamond earrings. Gwyneth Paltrow opted for a cooler blue hue, wearing a long-sleeved Ralph Lauren gown with a jeweled butterfly brooch, and Jessica Biel showed off her love for Spring prints in a gorgeous floral-patterned Elie Saab gown and diamond-crusted hair brooch. And that's just the beginning. Suffice it to say, Oblivion star Olga Kurylenko had a really good week, with designers Roland Mouret, Marchesa, and Elie Saab to back her up. But the real surprise-turned-treat came courtesy of Angelina Jolie's rare red-carpet appearance. The actress and humanitarian attended the Women in the World Summit in a look straight from the Saint Laurent Spring '13 runway — olive-green caftan, sweeping black robe, and all. As for the rest of the top 10 lineup? You'll just have to keep clicking to see who made the cut.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on April 4, and we couldn't think of a better way to honor the power couple than to spotlight their most stylish moments together. Whether they're sitting courtside at a basketball game, strolling the streets of Paris, vacationing on a yacht off the Mediterranean coast, or taking the stage together, we can count on both to always deliver fresh ensembles that stay true to their personal style. Beyoncé never strays too far from the glamour, even off-duty, and Jay can pull off a tux with as much ease (and charisma) as he can a pair of jeans and sneakers. Without further ado, head inside to witness Beyoncé and Jay-Z's 28 most stylish moments (yet), all in honor of their fifth wedding anniversary.
