Between listening to new wave and boy bands and staring at our posters of Rob Lowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, and JTT, we somehow managed to style ourselves up in acid-washed jeans, biker shorts, jellies, and other semi-horrific pieces way back when. Even though we shudder to think of some of the things we wore, many of those styles have come back with a vengeance (neon remains a huge runway trend, Keds are still everywhere, and we all remember where we were the day American Apparel started selling scrunchies). Since TrèsSugar has us feeling especially nostalgic about days gone by — and there's nothing like a Friday flashback! — we've rounded up 50 of the biggest and best trends to come out of the '80s and '90s. Awesome Americana: Donna Karan
Let's continue our tribute to this year's Costume Institute Gala by honoring the epitome of American woman: Donna Karan. We spoke to the NYC designer at Neiman Marcus not too long ago — she had a lot to say, like, "If you can't sleep in it, then forget it." Besides being articulate and wildly zen, Donna is also super fashionable. In her 60s, she continues to keep up appearances, mainly dressing utilitarian with a chic edge. I'll let her work speak for itself . . .
Happy Birthday, Marc Jacobs!
Along with Leighton Meester and Kristen Stewart, Marc Jacobs celebrates his birthday today. In his 47 years of life, the American designer has accomplished insurmountably great things. In honor of his big day, let's go back in time, like we did with designer Jenni Kayne, to track all of Marc's impressive accomplishments. From magnificent runway shows to fun celebrity photo ops, this is your chance to get to know all of Marc, from 1989 to today.
Fashion Flashback: Jenni Kayne
Jenni Kayne has long been a Fab favorite. The LA-based designer never fails to inspire us with her polished, cool-girl aesthetic. When maxi skirts were making a chic comeback, Jenni did it so right, and even inspired me to get one. We have been following Jenni for quite some time now, and even got to chat with her recently at New York Fashion Week. We were thrilled when she became a mom, opened an LA store, then took her business online. Among her early celeb adopters have been Jared Leto, Rachel Zoe, the Olsens, Kristen Bell, and Rachel Bilson, to name a few. Step inside to get a fashion flashback of Jenni Kayne's universe.
