The tour de force of our favorite designers and their collections past continues right here with a look at the ever-talented Phillip Lim.

The tour de force of our favorite designers and their collections past continues right here with a look at the ever-talented Phillip Lim. Read on to see his collections as we prep for New York Fashion Week's impending kickoff.

Phillip Lim debuted at Fashion Week with a presentation of his Fall 2006 collection and then showed his Spring 2007 collection the following season on the runway. Since its beginning, the label's been praised for its cool and easy aesthetic, combining the worlds of street style and ladylike elegance in collections filled with subtle femininity. With a celebrity fan base that includes so many of our favorites — Kate Hudson, Kate Bosworth, Natalie Portman — he's created a wildly popular brand with major staying power. Click through to get a glimpse of Lim's past collections as we eagerly await his Fall '13 lineup.

The Latest Covetable Looks From Pre-Fall 2012 — Alexander McQueen, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, and More

Retro throwbacks, tailored perfection, and soft feminine references — pre-Fall '12 is a beautiful blend of structured shapes and unexpected girlie details.

Retro throwbacks, tailored perfection, and soft feminine references — pre-Fall '12 is a beautiful blend of structured shapes and unexpected girlie details. Lanvin delivered deliberately unfinished embellishments like exposed dart seams and raw edges, while Givenchy revived its "greatest hits" prints (think tropics and rottweiler motifs), and Sarah Burton traveled back in time to the '60s English countryside to whip up a cool equestrian-inspired McQ collection. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. We're obsessed with Carven's nod to mod silhouettes, Derek Lam's focus on detachable mink collars, and Versace's Studio 54 vibe, too. It's a pre-season worth poring over, so get to it. Click through to see even more inspired looks and gorgeous accessories from Pre-Fall 2012.

One Editor, One $500 Budget — See How She Spends It!

Ever wonder how a fashion editor determines her favorite items and top picks?
Fashion Editor Winter 2011 Shopping Picks on a Budget

Ever wonder how a fashion editor determines her favorite items and top picks? It's essentially our job to shop — to sift through the newest of the new, the chicest of the chic, the most-wanted of the wanted. Every day we scour the four corners of the shopping world — from huge e-commerce sites to the tiniest indie boutique — to find you the pieces you didn't even know you needed. That said, it's hard not to shop for ourselves when we're constantly inundated with all those amazing goods. In this new series, we challenge our editors to spend $500 on their Winter wardrobes — just to see what they would pick for themselves. Next up, Christina Pérez, associate editor at our sister site, Fashionologie. Click through to see how she spends her money now.

I tend to gravitate toward pretty simple items that I know will mix easily with things I already own. I like clean shapes, tactile fabrics, and neutral colors — with a gorgeous print or bold hue thrown in here and there for good measure. When I'm shopping, I try to think "versatility" — if I can think of several ways to wear one item, then I know it was meant to be mine.

Dress Up With 15 Pretty Pendant Necklaces

Some statements are loud, some are subtle, and some are singularly bold.

Some statements are loud, some are subtle, and some are singularly bold. We'd like to think that rocking a pendant necklace covers all of the statement bases in one poignant swoop. There's a well-edited mix of playful, poised, neon bright, sophisticated, and sweet pendant pieces for every fashion frame of mind. Style a multicolored Oscar de la Renta brooch necklace alone for maximum effect or get a little layer happy with an Isabel Marant girlie tassel pendant and a handful of chains — it's really up to you. One thing's for sure, a pendant necklace is just as much a décolletage talking point as it is a pretty accessorizing piece. Click through to see our editors' pendant picks and shop your favorites!

Simple Winter Velvet Styling Tips — Plus, Shop Our Picks All Under $150

Velvet might just be our new Winter wardrobe BFF.

Velvet might just be our new Winter wardrobe BFF. Its plush texture, cozy feel, and luxe look make it the perfect "something extra" in our chilly weather fashion endeavors. From jewel-toned loafers at Jenni Kayne to statement patterned pants at Proenza Schouler, velvet was no stranger on the Fall 2011 runways. Additionally, Olivier Theyskens incorporated the textile into his capsule collection for Theory, Marc Jacobs designed gorgeous black velvet capes, and Alice Temperley debuted a bevy of sophisticated floor-length evening gowns. It's safe to say — our latest fabric obsession is both validated and totally on point. Not sure how to include the trend du jour into your own style MO? Keep these tips in mind:

  • The lightweight fabric can add a dynamic twist to your standard getup. No need to wear in moderation — velvet can texturize a bold printed dress or cinch a look together with ease. If you're new to the trend, try it out subtly via pumps, a sash, a collar detail, or a clutch.
  • To give the plush material more shape and structure, pair a velvet blouse with more tailored pieces, like trousers or a tweed blazer.
  • Look for burnout patterns, crushed styles, embellishments, and jewel tones for maximum effect. Loafers, capes, and long overcoats are three simple ways to make a huge velvet statement.

Now, click through for our picks for perfecting the velvety look — all under $150.
