Freaky or Fabulous? The Gorilla Arm Trend For Fall 2011

Fur, both real and faux, returned for Fall, and one of the most interesting incarnations of the furry stuff was the debut of the gorilla arm.

Fur, both real and faux, returned for Fall, and one of the most interesting incarnations of the furry stuff was the debut of the gorilla arm. By that, we mean the seriously, thickly fur-covered sleeves of coats. Rag & Bone showed it in their futuristic Scottish ski bum, Giles did it under a black corset, and Peter Som took it to the trench. It's certainly a bold look, but one that could be hard to pull off. What do you think of this trend? Would you wear it?

Freaky or Fabulous? Erickson Beamon's Fall '11 Rhinestone Masks

We've come to know and love Erickson Beamon for its in-your-face rhinestone baubles.

We've come to know and love Erickson Beamon for its in-your-face rhinestone baubles. For designers Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon, bigger and chunkier is always better. But for Fall '11, the duo have outdone themselves with eye-catching — pun intended — rhinestone masks. They're definitely intriguing to look at, but I'm not so sure they're translatable to the streets or even comfortable. What do you think — are these Erickson Beamon masks freaky or fabulous?

With all the loveliness that the fashion industry has to offer, every once in a while, something truly flabbergasting comes across our paths — and it would be pretty selfish of us not to share it with you all. In 2010, there were quite a few quirky — and questionable — products and trends that had us scratching our heads. Here are some of the oddities that had us asking: is it freaky or fabulous?

Freaky or Fabulous? Colorful Coco on the Cover of Elle Italia

It's been a while since we've seen Coco Rocha .

It's been a while since we've seen Coco Rocha . . . and now we see her looking super colorful on the January cover of Elle Italia! Photographer Alexei Hay captured the bubbly model in a playful pose, wearing layers upon layers — a teal bodysuit, voluminous maxiskirt, platform shoes, with hot pink socks. There's obviously a lot going on, so it's not a look that would translate well to the streets or be super flattering. But what do you think of it on the cover of a magazine? Is this Coco cover freaky or fabulous?

Freaky or Fabulous? The Swallow-You-Alive Soopa Scarf

Let me preface this post by saying that I love a big scarf.

Let me preface this post by saying that I love a big scarf. Cozy knit scarves are the best; the bigger the better –– or so I thought. After seeing this super long, super chunky Soopa Scarf ($150) by Etsy seller Yooko, I'm not so sure how I feel anymore. Clocking in at about eight feet, nine inches –– with an 11-foot long sister scarf ($220) available as well –– this neck warmer pretty much swallows you alive. I definitely want to be warm –– but I also need to see, and speak, and turn my head! What do you think: is this giant scarf freaky or fabulous?

Freaky or Fabulous? Kim Kardashian's Fur Sleeve

Kim Kardashian often dresses up when sitting courtside at basketball games.

Kim Kardashian often dresses up when sitting courtside at basketball games. But the latest Miami Heat vs. New Jersey Nets game she attended was fancy on a whole other level. The all-black and over-the-knee boots are customary for Kim, but the fur sleeve is a new addition to her wardrobe. It looks as though she chopped her fur chubby and was left with just the left sleeve; perhaps better suited for a red carpet than a basketball court. What do you think: is this a fabulous new trend or just plain freaky?

Freaky or Fabulous? Jeremy Scott's Teddy Bear Sneakers

Although Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, I'm not sure he wanted to be a shoe.

Although Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, I'm not sure he wanted to be a shoe. If you ever had childhood dreams of taking your fave stuffed friend wherever you went, consider your wish fulfilled! For his latest Adidas collection, designer Jeremy Scott decided to go the pink, fluffy route and use teddy bear heads for the tongues of these kicks. I'm curious to see if people will be wearing these on the street — and hopefully not on a rainy day. What are your thoughts: freaky or fabulous?

Freaky or Fabulous? Seeing Double at Lisbon Fashion Week

Just when you thought Paris finished off this season's Spring '11 Fashion Week, there's another one happening in Lisbon, Portugal.

Just when you thought Paris finished off this season's Spring '11 Fashion Week, there's another one happening in Lisbon, Portugal. The most eye-catching designs are courtesy of aforest-design. Talk about seeing double! If one pair of sunglasses isn't enough for you, how about two pairs? Or, care for a spare pair of sneakers? These trippy pieces are obviously more suitable for the catwalk than the streets, but they're novel nonetheless. What do you think — freaky or fabulous?

Freaky or Fabulous? Missoni's Spring '11 Collection

We've come to know and love Missoni for its vivacious zigzag prints.

We've come to know and love Missoni for its vivacious zigzag prints. Well, for Spring '11, that signature print has been put on caffeine, nay, steroids! The colors are brighter, the zigzags are way exaggerated, and even the silhouettes are a lot funkier. Loose-fitting caftans, crop tops, and full skirts were all competing to stand out on the runway. And the witch-like hats made this a collection I can see working quite well for upcoming Halloween. Missoni witch, anyone?

Freaky or Fabulous? Prada's Neon Spring '11 Accessories

Miuccia Prada strayed away, way away from Fall's uber ladylike motif.

Miuccia Prada strayed away, way away from Fall's uber ladylike motif. For Spring '11, she opted for neon, stripes, flamenco-inspired silhouettes, even bananas and monkeys! It looks like the lady is rebelling against her suffocating corsets. And the accessories were punchier than ever — dyed fox tails, colorful platforms, striped bags, and gigantic sombreros. Eye catching, for sure, but freaky or fabulous?
