If you thought khakis were only for casual weekends spent running errands, take a look at how our editor Allison McNamara, producer and host of FabSugarTV and khaki loyalist, styles them for much chicer outings. By adding a textured, sharply tailored blazer and killer heels, you can elevate the classic khaki to a fashion-forward look that is equal parts sophisticated and cool. Her styling secret? Make sure to cuff the hems to give the pants more defined shape — and show off dressy shoes.

Get Prep Schooled

These broken-in straight khakis are a prepster classic, but we gave this blue pair an unexpected spin that's anything but uniform.

These broken-in straight khakis are a prepster classic, but we gave this blue pair an unexpected spin that's anything but uniform. Try a bold color combo — we love yellow — and balance the brightness with edgier elements like a sleek leather jacket and loafers punched up with leopard. The result is part prep, part downtown cool, and it totally works for a daytime casual outfit. If you want to dress it up for evening, just add a strappy heel or ankle bootie.

Two Super Chic and Easy Ways to Wear Neon

Neon hues have dominated the recent runways, but the joltingly bright shade can be a little intimidating to pull off in everyday life, especially considering how often we wear black!

Neon hues have dominated the recent runways, but the joltingly bright shade can be a little intimidating to pull off in everyday life, especially considering how often we wear black! To make the trend more wearable in everyday life, we worked with our partners at Gap for an easy styling solution that incorporates just a touch of neon for a big impact. Our FabSugar TV host, Allison McNamara, has a basic rule for neon: pair it with solid, neutral tones and keep the silhouette clean. For a downtown edgy look, she layered a neon tee under a gray top and cream blazer, and paired it with slick leather pants. For a more feminine take that's great for the office, she substituted a full black skirt for the pants, and chose a pink v-neck to wear under the cream blazer. Her sophisticated, but insanely easy-to-wear looks prove that neon isn't an '80s leftover; rather, it's a fresh way to brighten up a neutral outfit. If you love this, check out what we did with bright blue khakis.
