Anne Leads the Celebrity Couture Guests to Paris

The Spring couture shows are currently underway in Paris, which means it's time for star-studded front rows.

The Spring couture shows are currently underway in Paris, which means it's time for star-studded front rows. Anne Hathaway was Giorgio Armani's guest of honor yesterday for his presentation, though she was able to tear herself away from his runway full of red carpet-worthy gowns long enough to exchange loving glances with her boyfriend Adam Shulman. Anne recently found out she's the year's female recipient of Harvard's Hasty Pudding pot, and she's also set to announce the Oscar nominations back in LA on February 2. Elsewhere in Paris, Hilary Swank joined Inglourious Basterds's Melanie Laurent at a collection from Etam designed by the model Natalia Vodianova. This morning brought Karl Lagerfeld's latest collection for Chanel, which went with a "neon baroque" theme. Pregnant Claudia Schiffer was there to join Alexa Chung and the always attention-grabbing Kanye West and Amber Rose.

Giorgio Armani Takes His Spring 2010 Couture to a Celestial Place

>> Awards season is in full swing, and his coup scoring the most dresses at the Golden Globes, it's clear from what Giorgio Armani served up on the Prive runway that he has one thing on his mind: the red carpet. With a crescent moon backdrop and Anne Hathaway — who wore Prive to the Oscars last year — front row, he sent out gown after gown — simple and shimmering. It won't be surprising to see a couple of the lunar looks again soon in a different, more star-studded arena.

Are Top Designers Shying Away From Awards Shows?

>> In the Golden Globes aftermath, Cathy Horyn was left less than impressed.

>> In the Golden Globes aftermath, Cathy Horyn was left less than impressed. "The new decade certainly didn’t announce itself with a bang on the Globes red carpet last night, and it had nothing to do with the rain," she blogged yesterday. "Where was that single, game-changing dress that people would talk about?"

She continued:

Most of the dresses last night offered little more than a paper-doll variation on styles of the past few years. A preponderance of blush pink or one-shouldered styles doesn’t point to a trend so much as reveal an ongoing problem with mediocre design. Maybe the best designers now prefer to stay away from the awards shows, and the actresses, worried about bad publicity, don’t know the difference anymore. They don’t know what it means in fashion to be playful and truly relaxed. So the dresses keep wearing them.

>> Couture Catfight: Giorgio Armani Upset By Dior —If nothing else, Giorgio Armani wants to prove that he's still kicking.  The designer himself sent out a note today indicating that his Armani Prive couture presentation next Monday is being moved back from 7:30 pm to 9 pm due to what he calls an “unexpected and unjustifiable” time change by Christian Dior.  He goes on to call Dior's move “indicative of a lack of respect for other people’s time and labor.” Dior has yet to respond.

When am I going to sell? There’s always a moment in every interview when this question jumps out. So it is time for clarity. I will never sell because I have no need to and I have no desire to. And I will not step aside as long as, touch wood, I can keep up the pace. I want to follow everything, be busy with everything, and the last word will always be mine.” [Financial Times]
