H&M's Charitable Collection For UNICEF Is Stocked With Trendy Pieces

Get ready to squeeze into your kids' clothes — all for a good cause!
H&M UNICEF Kids Collection

Get ready to squeeze into your kids' clothes — all for a good cause! Next month H&M will introduce a collection of tot-sized pieces that will benefit UNICEF's All For Children initiative. The contemporary collection of pieces for babies through kids wear size 8, takes its cues from classic children's styles, including boys and girls pieces in Fall's muted nude, mole, and coral tones. The on-trend designs will not only appeal to tots, but to their mamas too.

From sailor-striped tops to retro-inspired sweaters and dresses, the collection is based on an original children's book illustrated just for H&M. Moritz! is a text-less picture book featuring a lamb, a mouse, and a kitten in various situations. The characters' clothes and the book itself are all included in the All For Children collection.

Twenty-five percent of the sale of each garment will go directly to the charitable program that benefits families in the world's poorest communities, including those that help make the discount department store's clothes. Keep reading for a sneak peek at the collection, and visit H&M's site for more details about the initiative.

Leigh Lezark to Collaborate With H&M

H&M's next collaboration isn't with a big-time designer.

H&M's next collaboration isn't with a big-time designer. It's with a relatively under-the-radar personality: cool girl, model, and the Misshapes DJ Leigh Lezark. It's a smaller-scale collab that will be limited to England; Leigh and H&M are creating its first-ever store-within-in-a-store at Selfridges in London, set to open Aug. 25. Leigh will also curate an exclusive collection of her favorite clothing and accessories for the store. "My philosophy on both beauty and fashion is to be yourself and find your own style, so for me, the new edited-down H&M at Selfridges is an ideal shopping destination," said Lezark. "The curated pieces are, I feel, modern classics everyone should have in their wardrobe — and I have tried to throw in some color, too!" Sadly, the curated collection is solely for the UK, but we'll keep our eyes peeled for photos when the store debuts. We think it's interesting that H&M is doing smaller collaborations — who would you love to see H&M collaborate with here in the US? Tell us in the comments!

The new ad, featuring Frida Gustavsson in a slicked back high ponytail, shows simple structured silhouettes in the way of sheath dresses, knits, tops, and trousers dipped in purple, blue, and dark citron hues. Here are the top three cold weather dressing tips we've gleaned from the ad:

  • Invest in colored tights to pair with streamlined dresses and skirts.
  • Colorblocking is here to stay; try pairing a boxy top with vibrant trousers for a chic, work-appropriate ensemble.
  • Shift dresses and A-line silhouettes are a simple way to inject instant '60s appeal — and don't forget the loafers.
  • Now flip through the rest of the campaign images and start taking notes.

    Preview Versace's Upcoming H&M Collection

    >> H&M has announced its next collaborator: Versace.

    >> H&M has announced its next collaborator: Versace. Donatella Versace looked back at the house archives to reinterpret classic Versace designs from 1978 to today — "iconic Versace pieces [from] iconic Versace moments" as she put it — for the collection, which will encompass around 40 pieces for women, as well as a 20-piece collection for men and a selection of homeware (think bedspreads and pillows).

Since the collection is debuting on November 17 (in 300 stores worldwide and online) — right in the thick of party season, as Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M, points out — it will be dominated by gold studded leather dresses (one of which Donatella was "so excited" about that she wore yesterday to take her bow at the Versace men's show), colorful silk and print dresses, high heels, and costume jewelry.

Versace also designed a Pre-Spring collection for H&M that will be exclusively available in countries with H&M online sales (Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the United Kingdom) starting on January 19, 2012. See Versace talk about the collaboration in the video below, and preview the collection in the slideshow.
