Heatherette for MAC: pictures and interview

During Fashion Week, I had the chance to take a peek at the new MAC Pro store in New York. It's an amazing space — 6,000 square feet of pure beauty heaven. Not only is it a shopping wonderland, it's also a place where professionals can use a photo studio, pore over hundreds of books and magazines for inspiration, and mix their own creations.

And if that wasn't fun enough, I had the treat of being shown around by MAC's top brass, including Creative Director James Giger. Plus, a few lucky beauty bloggers were able to chat with design duo Heatherette about their limited-edition makeup collection for MAC, which hits stores today. Read on to see what they had to say, and to see which items from the line are worth picking up.

Project Runway Rundown: Episode 10, "Raw Talent"

OK, so maybe I was a little too skeptical of this week's Project Runway.

OK, so maybe I was a little too skeptical of this week's Project Runway. I wasn't sold on the premise of yet another sponsored challenge (this time by the WWE Divas), but now, I'm not sure what I was so worried about. The wackiness of the challenge gave the designers freedom to break loose — not quite avant-garde loose, but close — and create some of the most inventive outfits we've seen yet. Plus, I seriously underestimated the hilarity of Tim Gunn in a room full of Amazonian pro wrestlers.

The designers were given two days and $100 (to be spent at Spandex House, not Mood, heh) to create competition outfits for their chosen divas, who ranged from Rami's "all-American girl" to Sweet P's "classic sexpot, not the whore sexpot." I loved the moment when the designers first spotted the Divas throwing each other to the ground and making what Christian described as "sex moans" — Jillian barely made it in the doorway, Rami turned a little red, and Chris summed all up this way: "These ladies throwing each other, kicking each other, pulling each other's hair . . . It was pretty great, actually."

Right from the start, Sweet P seemed to be struggling with her idea — surprise! — while Rami and Ricky also seemed out of their element. Chris, on the other hand, seemed right at home. To hear how things went in the workroom and see a gallery of all the getups, just read more

MAC has one busy year planned for 2008.

MAC has one busy year planned for 2008. Fergie's the new Viva Glam spokesperson, French graf artist Fafi is doing a collection, and in March, fashion-design duo Heatherette is releasing a hot pink line of makeup. While Heatherette is known for its outrageous outfits and glitter, they can also do simple makeup as well. Here's a preview of the packaging. Are you dying to get your hands on this, or is it too much pink?

Update! Check out the full product line, along with reviews and an interview with Heatherette designers Richie Rich and Traver Rains.

On Our Radar: Christmas Stockings by Top Designers

How cool would it be to get a Christmas stocking created by either Vera Wang, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Tuleh, Rodarte, or the boys from Heatherette?

How cool would it be to get a Christmas stocking created by either Vera Wang, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Tuleh, Rodarte, or the boys from Heatherette? Well, starting Wednesday, December 19 at 6 p.m. PST, cool can become a reality. WWD has asked these top designers to create and stuff one-of-a-kind Christmas stockings for charity.

All of the proceeds from the five-day eBay auction will benefit Citymeals-On-Wheels, an organization that provides nutritious food and human company to homebound elderly New Yorkers in need. Some of the goodies to look forward to are a Marc Jacobs ribbon watch, Broadway tickets, a Tuleh ostrich clutch and a Heatherette tank top.

Model of the week Lydia Hearst has teamed up with Heatherette designers Traver Rains and Richie Rich to design a collection of handbags for sportswear brand Puma.

Model of the week Lydia Hearst has teamed up with Heatherette designers Traver Rains and Richie Rich to design a collection of handbags for sportswear brand Puma.

The 10 limited-edition Puma Lydia bags, around $100, are inspired by the French 77 Racket Bag. On Tuesday, Lydia (left) proudly modeled two of her bags at a press brunch in NYC. They're patent, sporty, but would you be caught with one at the gym?

Love It or Hate It? Face Paint At Heatherette

Things have always been a little kookier at LA Fashion Week, but the makeup at the Heatherette show this season had more of a Halloween edge than a pretty or polished fashion feel.

Crazy club-kid duo Heatherette isn't known for being subtle, and its models' hairstyles were as over-the-top as you'd expect. I thought it was a lot of fun, and very young—it reminded me of the way my friends and I would play "hairdresser" as girls.

If you like the winged metallic eyeliner shown here on Chanel Iman (yes, that's her real name), you'll be excited to know that Heatherette will soon have its own makeup line, complete with the lovely Lydia Hearst as its campaign face!

Shocker: Paris Hilton Isn't Reliable

Paris Hilton has been a friend to the slapped together by children heinous avant-garde design team Heatherette for years, but that certainly doesn't mean that she'll pull through in the clutch for her buddies.

Paris Hilton has been a friend to the slapped together by children heinous avant-garde design team Heatherette for years, but that certainly doesn't mean that she'll pull through in the clutch for her buddies. The heiress was scheduled to appear at the Heatherette runway show yesterday evening (which sounds like it went just swimmingly), but declined to show up, citing a stomach flu. You know, that special type of flu that comes the day after 3AM tequila shots. Paris was out until the wee small hours of the morning with very much on-again boyfriend Stavros Niarchos, and just wasn't feeling up for the runway the next morning. As you can see, she may have been less-than sober.

Hey, I'm just surprised the fashion line, though known for shoving controversial pieces down the runway, would still want to associate with Paris considering everything that has recently come to light about the girl.

Two of girls' best friends—in this case, chocolate and fashion—collided at the 9th Annual Chocolate Show, held last Thursday in New York City. Some of the designs were absolutely gorgeous, like the Willy Wonka-inspired masterpiece and vampiric design above. Others, meanwhile, were totally gross—notably, the model with strips of chocolate running down her legs. For the fashion portion of this choco-centric event, top pastry and confection chefs worked with fashion designers, including Rebecca Taylor, Abaete, and Heatherette, to create the over-the-top and edible clothes. Not exactly wearable couture, but this looks like a really fun event all the same. To see the photos from the show, read more
