Feeling Inspired by Prada's Spring '11 Stripes . . .

The weather in NYC yesterday was unseasonably warm and quite sunny.

The weather in NYC yesterday was unseasonably warm and quite sunny. Walking down West 19th street in the afternoon wind, I had a sudden and violent urge to don bright colors and a bold pattern or two — at the same time. As the dirty snow piles get smaller and smaller, my visions of cherry blossoms and green leaves become more and more vivid. The punchy stripes at Prada's Spring/Summer 2011 show really revved my sartorial engines, and finding some choice horizontal lines in shades of fuchsia and jade is high on my Spring must list.

Spring is on the horizon, but if it's still chilly in your city, do as Keira Knightley did in London and bundle up in something cozy and chic. All you need to re-create the Brit's ensemble are the same easy pieces, layered up accordingly: start with a corduroy skirt ($48) and tights, and add a classic button-down, charcoal knit sweater, and wool coat to top it all off. My favorite part? The quintessential pair of lace-up ankle boots ($108, originally $215). Just shop the picks above to achieve a similar style.

Gwyneth's cozy fur-collared anorak is a chic way to keep warm and a perfect example of what to wear out when the weather gets chilly. Though we don't get a peek of what she's got on underneath, I'd like to think she's sporting a pretty mini sheath ($80) in a bold hue to contrast with her dark tights and ankle boots ($225).
