John Galliano Takes Dior to the '50s for Spring 2011 Couture

>> John Galliano stuck to his staples for Spring 2011 Christian Dior couture — a retro silhouette, this time inspired by illustrator Rene Gruau, and perennial Dior face Karlie Kloss opening, introduced to the audience with a rotation of the set. Mario Testino, Stella Tennant, Lou Doillon, Pedro Almodovar, Patrick Demarchelier, and Azzedine Alaia were all front row to take in the show, and Galliano took his bow in a cropped black wig and red-striped black tuxedo pants.

Chanel Goes Farm Girl, Takes a Roll in Hay for Spring 2010

>> Inspired by Marie Antoinette's Petit Hameau farm at Versailles and the fact that he spent part of his childhood on a farm — "You hear a lot about the environment these days. I thought it would be interesting to put a fashion twist on it" — Karl Lagerfeld sent his parade of Chanel models stomping through dirt starting at the sound of a rooster's crow.

Guests sat on burlap aged to look mildewed as the high heel-clogged (Lagerfeld called them 5 o'clock clogs), fake tattooed, wicker basket-carrying girls stepped one by one from a giant haystack.  The barnyard set took a month and a half of construction beforehand and then a week to assemble at the Grand Palais, where the show was held. Apparently pigs were supposed to be involved, too, but Heidi Mount Twittered that they were too scared to be in the show.  Chanel face Lily Allen and mock band popped up through a trap door in the floor — Iekeliene Stange and Charlotte di Calypso provided backup singing — and Freja Beha Erichsen and Baptiste Giabiconi walked the runway four times together.

The last time, they were joined by Lara Stone as bride, and all "fell upon each other in the hay as Karl walked past to bow" — in jeans, no less — while Freja and Lara shared a kiss.

Hussein Chalayan Keeps Expanding Under Puma's Wing, This Time With Signature Fall 2009 Campaign

>> Hussein Chalayan has yet to debut his first designs for PPR-owned Puma — they come out in the Fall — but he's definitely feeling the love from Puma's majority stake in his own company and the access to Gucci Group resources.  He said when his role as Puma creative director was first annouced in February 2008 that he hoped "this partnership will mean that my work will reach more people, both through designing for Puma and with the expansion of my own business," and it has — his collaboration with J.

>> THE MODELIZER —Iekeliene Stange isn't ready to give up the runway yet, but she's definitely transitioning more and more into photog mode.  She had exhibits in Berlin and London earlier this year, and now she wants "to get into more photojournalism": "Those photographers just don’t exist anymore, who really love to go in there and show the world what’s going on.  Now with television and everything, you have these different types of media that are taking away the interest in photography.

The quality is really missing.  [Before] they actually changed people’s opinions of what was going on. People now look at these pictures of dying children in Africa, and they’re like, “OK, I’ve seen this, I’ve seen that.” [Nylon]

>> THE MODELIZER — You know Fashion Week season is here when a number of models all change their hair simultaneously: Coco Rocha did an early swap to red a couple of months ago, and Monday night, Vlada Rosylakova took her strawberry blonde redder to a similarly vivid color.  Also parading a new look: Iekeliene Stange, who ditched brown for blonde, and Iris Strubegger, who debuted her cropped cut — supposedly done for a Vogue Paris cover — during the Givenchy couture show late last month.

>> THE MODELIZER —Iekeliene Stange was in Paris to walk for Chanel couture today, and tonight, her first photography exhibit opens in Berlin.  She's gone from being discovered in Holland as "a little punk with red dreadlocks and my arms covered in toothbrush bracelets" to a model who's considering moving to Berlin full-time to concentrate on her art — and she doesn't even mind nipping at the hand that feeds her: "I think these days fashion photography is very restricted and lacks a lot of creativity.

There’s always certain items that need to be shot in certain ways and you don’t have as much freedom. Very often these days it seems to be more about socializing and who knows who, rather than about actual photography."  [Style File, Fashionista]

It has been reported that Phillip Lim's Fall 09 collection will be luxe and jewel-toned and that the kind of woman he has in mind is grown-up but knows how to have fun which, if you think about it, is something you might have guessed on your own.

It has been reported that Phillip Lim's Fall 09 collection will be luxe and jewel-toned and that the kind of woman he has in mind is grown-up but knows how to have fun which, if you think about it, is something you might have guessed on your own. Lim's clarified his usage of the word luxe by saying that, in his collection, the luxe comes from an aesthetic depth rather than an increasing price point. Now that, is nice to hear.

Marc by Marc Jacobs has opened in Madrid, making it the first Marc by Marc store in all of Spain. Previous to this Eks, a multi-brand retailer, has had the exclusive on Marc by Marc merchandise in Spain. The relationship is said remain in tact as the products will be purposefully distinct between the the Marc by Marc and Eks stores.

We're not overly interested in gossip about models but we do like artistic fashion week photography. Style.com has commissioned model Iekeliene Stange to shoot backstage at New York Fashion Week and her photos are worth checking out. When a model is on both sides of the lens, the results are quite telling. Check out our version of this exercise at New York Fashion Week, with photographers Shannon Sinclair, Robert Malmberg, Jonathan Melamed, and Jusin William Lin

Lest we forget, Zaha Hadid (who designed the Chanel Mobile Art Exhibit) makes croc-like shoes for Lacoste. The renderings
