Gwen and James Light Up the Starry Night

Gwen Stefani led the pack yesterday at Fashion Group International's annual Night of Stars in NYC.

Gwen Stefani led the pack yesterday at Fashion Group International's annual Night of Stars in NYC. She struck a pose in black alongside fellow designer Eva Mendes, while Dita von Teese and Evan Rachel Wood apparently managed to avoid an awkward run-in. Gucci model James Franco took a break from his other Big Apple activities to smile for the cameras next to the house's designer, Frida Giannini, and Mary J. Blige. Mary and Frida were together earlier in the day to open the new Mary J. Blige Center For Women in Yonkers, and their charitable ways continued into the evening of celebrating the year's best fashionable good deeds.

Halle, John, Padma, and Adrian Have a Ball Together

Halle Berry went sexy in her cutout dress last night for Keep a Child Alive's 6th Annual Black Ball in NYC.

Halle Berry went sexy in her cutout dress last night for Keep a Child Alive's 6th Annual Black Ball in NYC. She had her best accessory, boyfriend Gabriel, on her arm, as she walked the red carpet alongside Adrian Grenier and pregnant Padma Lakshmi. John Mayer made an appearance solo as rumors about his rekindled romance with Jennifer Aniston circulate, though you guys seem to think their giving it another go is a pretty terrible idea. Today happens to be John's 32nd birthday, so it looks like he got a head start on the celebrating.

Mila, Natalie and Emmy Make It a Starlet-y Night at the NY Ballet

It was a lovely evening for the ballet in NYC yesterday, as celebrities gathered at the Lincoln Center for the Fall Gala.

It was a lovely evening for the ballet in NYC yesterday, as celebrities gathered at the Lincoln Center for the Fall Gala. Mila Kunis posed pretty with Natalie Portman, who is having quite the cultured week in the city after checking out Jude Law's official opening at Hamlet on Tuesday. The girls are starring as rival ballet dancers in the upcoming thriller Black Swan, so it's all in the name of research for Mila and Natalie. Emmy Rossum may be in the midst of divorcing her secret husband, but she's still happy to step out with her current boyfriend, Counting Crows's Adam Duritz. He has quite the history with beautiful women — Jennifer Aniston or Mary-Louise Parker, anyone? Joanna Garcia also stood out in her sexy red dress and has been adding some new excitement to Gossip Girl as Nate's star-crossed lover Bree.

Fab's Fashion Night Out!

While Pop was chatting it up with Gwen Stefani, I was doing what Fashion's Night Out was supposed to do — shopping!

While Pop was chatting it up with Gwen Stefani, I was doing what Fashion's Night Out was supposed to do — shopping! And gallivanting and celeb-spotting. You ready for my FNO adventure? My fellow fashion junkie friend and I started at Bergdorf Goodman where many fashion festivities were going on. Along the way I saw Rachel Bilson and Hayden waiting for their car in front of their hotel — I said hi to her but don't think she remembered me from when I interviewed her at Brian Reyes's show last Fashion Week. Moving on, as expected, there was a line to get into the department store, and it was a madhouse inside. I spotted jewelry designer Philip Crangi on the way in; it's hard to miss him, he looks like a pirate. We went straight to the shoe department where we fawned over Balmain boots, Giuseppe Zanotti lovers, awesome Alaia's, and Chanel flats. We quickly decided to leave the Bergdorf madness, but stopped at the M.C.L jewelry counter and said hi to model cutie Karlie Kloss on the way out.

To hear about my epic fashion night out and to see lots more FNO pics,

Reader Review of the Day: IMAN Second To None Luminous Foundation

Shopping for foundation that matches your skin tone, skin type, and preferences for finish and coverage is no easy task.

Shopping for foundation that matches your skin tone, skin type, and preferences for finish and coverage is no easy task. Reader Mparker recently reviewed IMAN Second To None Luminous Foundation ($15), a powder that can be used both wet and dry. Here's her review:

I've found my ultimate foundation. It's oil-free and you can apply this wet or dry — wet for a deeper coverage. I've just used it dry and it provides great coverage and still remains very sheer. It blends seamlessly with my skin tone and gives me a bit of a glow. I love this product, the fact that it's oil-free, and provides great coverage. I'm set.

Costa has not yet had an opportunity to dress the First Lady, but getting there is on his agenda. "Of course I will try to talk to her! Why do you think I'm here? I bought a tuxedo for her!"

Sessilee Lopez, too, was excited to have dinner with Obama. "She is truly amazing in person. An aura just radiates from her. I'm so proud that she's our First Lady," she wrote.  Coco Rocha and Hilary Rhoda also attended, in support of the evening's honorary chair, Carolina Herrera.

What's the Worst Backhanded Compliment You've Received?

Why blatantly insult someone, when you can disguise it as a compliment?

Why blatantly insult someone, when you can disguise it as a compliment? Intentional or not, some people have the art of backhanded compliments down. Like supermodel Iman for example. She told Parade Magazine this week:

Mrs. Obama is not a great beauty. But she is so interesting looking and so bright. That will always take you farther. When you’re a great beauty, it’s always downhill for you. If you’re someone like Mrs. Obama, you just get better with age.

Who wants to be a great beauty anyway, when you can be, uh, interesting looking? Other backhanded compliments include: "You age so well." Or, "You look great! Did you lose weight?"

Have you received any memorable critical compliments?
