Sure, he won the first season of Project Runway, but that doesn't mean Jay McCarroll has had it easy. As one of the first reality TV winners to be catapulted to fame, McCarroll's faced a lot of criticism about why he hasn't done more. He was a subject of a story about Bravo's struggling reality stars back in 2007, a cautionary tale about the price of sudden stardom.
A couple of years ago, Jay's post-show plight was the subject of a Bravo special, and now those same filmmakers have turned his story into a feature-length documentary, Eleven Minutes. The film is set to hit theaters Feb. 20 and traces Jay's journey to create a collection, show it at New York Fashion Week, and market it to stores.
Jay's always been better at the art side of fashion than at the business aspects (or at sucking up to people, for that matter), and so I'm curious to see how he navigates the high-end fashion world. Now that Project Runway has closed out its fifth season by naming a new winner, it seems like a good time to look back on the Runway champions of past and present. While you were home watching the Project Runway season finale on TV last night, the season four contestants were gathering at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in NY for a celebratory rendezvous with Christian Siriano.
The newest PR winner was taking his triumph in stride: "I get marriage proposals every day," Christian said. "And I get touched, like people want to pick me up and hug me and hold me because they think I can fit in a purse. Actually, I can fit in a purse." Apparently during filming, Jack Mackenroth carried Christian around in a tote bag.
Elsewhere at the party, more antics ensued, courtesy of Season 1 winner Jay McCarroll: "I just touched Rami's butt," he said. "Rock hard. I hate the jeans he wears but what's underneath is good." Too bad the video cameras weren't still around for that Kodak moment . . .

I can't believe another season of Project Runway is already over and done with. More to come on last night's season finale later, but I have a burning question: Now that we've been through the ups and downs of four whole seasons, with another on the way, which one sticks out as your favorite?
