John Galliano is never afraid of change. For his '11 Cruise collection for Christian Dior — presented in Shanghai — the designer opted out of creating his signature Chinese-inspired confections for classic French je ne sais quois. "I didn’t want to come here and present a Chinese-inspired collection to my Chinese friends," Galliano said. "I’m the ambassador of the house of Dior, and I wanted to come here with a French-inspired collection and to show the savoir faire of France." That said, Galliano created a spectacular motley of très chic offerings composed of striped knits, flirty ruffled frocks, overtly decadent organza and tulle gowns, and tailored separates.

Pastel candy tones, such as mint green, pink, orange, and lavender, dominated the runway and delivered a couture-like aesthetic, while pops of sexy black lace and classic plaid prints provided contrast. The perfect mix of old and new school French fashion. "I think our Parisian and Shanghai sisters — they both share the same love and passion, which is for tradition and innovation," Galliano said. In fact, a runway attendee described it best, stating, "I love Dior because of Galliano. He’s very ku [the Chinese slang word for cool]." Well said.
Christian Dior Brings the French and David Lynch to Shanghai for Cruise 2011
>> The 12-minute film David Lynch produced for Dior featuring Marion Cotillard, “Lady Blue Shanghai” (see it here), the third segment in the Lady Dior series — made its debut before a crowd of 500 gathered in Shanghai for Dior's Cruise 2011 show. According to Lynch, the only direction he had from Dior was, "They called me up and said, ‘Would you like to make a short film for the internet? You can do anything you want, you just need to show the handbag, the Pearl Tower and some old Shanghai.’” For both Lynch and Cotillard, the two-day shoot for the film in December marked their first visit to the Chinese city; the outcome is an enigmatic, Lynchian take on a love story.
Cotillard was back in Shanghai on Saturday, front row along with fellow house muse Charlize Theron. Dior face Karlie Kloss opened the French New Wave-inspired show in pink; John Galliano explained of his inspiration: “I didn’t want to come here and present a Chinese-inspired collection to my Chinese friends. I’m the ambassador of the house of Dior, and I wanted to come here with a French-inspired collection and to show the savoir faire of France.”
The afterparty, at which Kelis performed, saw both Galliano and Dior CEO Sidney Toledano dancing on the DJ's platform. And despite the fact that Dior usually shows cruise in New York — with the exception of this season — Shanghai may be the start of something new. Toledano noted: “I think the cruise opportunity is fantastic to go to a new market. This year it’s in Shanghai. I’m sure next year it will be somewhere else.”
Katy Perry’s Wedding Dress: New Details!

We're thrilled to present our favorite InStyle story here on Fab!
At the annual P.S. Arts Bag Lunch in L.A. Katy Perry admitted to fantasizing about an “all Chanel” wedding wardrobe, but sentimentality may prevail when she decides what to wear to marry comedian Russell Brand. “A Galliano [gown] would be very poignant for our relationship. Our first outing was to the Galliano show in Paris, so it would take everything full circle. We have been talking to him,” Perry told us. “I want my dress to be ornate and detailed and cinched and beautiful.” The singer also vowed not to get stressed out over all the other nuptial details. “Our schedules are hectic, but it will probably happen this year. I always said that I’d be married and buried in Santa Barbara, but I think I might do a location wedding instead,” she admitted. “When someone comes up to me and says, ‘I’m getting married too!’ and they’ve been tanning and working out for weeks, I can see they’re completely burnt out. I’m not going to be that crazy person—I just want it to be about the love!“

10 Magazine Celebrates Tenth Anniversary with Ten Designer Covers
>> It's not often that a designer graces the cover of a magazine, but in celebration of a decade since its launch, 10 magazine wrangled ten "fashion gods" for ten separate covers — each photographed by the lensman of their choice. Helmut Lang sent in a passport photo, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana commissioned Terry Richardson, Vivienne Westwood had Juergen Teller capture her, Ralph Lauren was snapped by Bruce Weber, and Karl Lagerfeld submitted a self-portrait. Alber Elbaz, Azzedine Alaia, Donatella Versace, John Galliano, and Tom Ford round out the rest of the designers featured.
“These are some of the faces that have made our industry and it is an honour to be celebrating them. 10 magazine has a history of celebrating the best creative talent in the world and we are honoured that these icons of fashion agreed to be our cover stars,” said Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, the magazine's founder and editor-in-chief (who is also creative director and fashion director at Harper's Bazaar UK).

>> Marion Cotillard Back for Third Round as Lady Dior —Marion Cotillard has embodied Lady Noir on the Eiffel Tower and Lady Rouge on the Brooklyn Bridge for Christian Dior, and now she's back as Lady Blue in Shanghai, with the Oriental Pearl Tower prominently placed in the background of the new Steven Klein-lensed ads. The third edition of the four-chapter series features a 12-minute film directed by David Lynch that was shot in Shanghai last December and will debut on Ladydior.com May 15, the same day John Galliano shows Dior’s Cruise 2011 collection in Shanghai. “In the David Lynch film, Marion is reciting a poem that he wrote, and was inspired by the Pearl Tower itself,” Galliano explained. “The words and building fuse in the picture he paints on-screen. Shanghai is such a vibrant and inspiring city.” [WWD]
Marion Cotillard's Lady Dior Saga Continues With "Lady Blue"

The print campaign images for John Galliano's latest installment of his Lady Dior saga are out. In the third of a four-part series, Marion Cotillard stars in the Steven Klein-lensed photographs with Shanghai's futuristic skyscrapers in the distance. Titled "Lady Blue," the still images will be followed by a David Lynch-directed film to be released online on May 15.
The short film will depict Cotillard in a mysterious entanglement with secret agents, highlighting Shanghai's Oriental Pearl Tower in the background, much like the Brooklyn Bridge and the Eiffel Tower were used in the first two episodes. Galliano said of the 12-minute film: “Marion is reciting a poem that [David Lynch] wrote, and was inspired by the Pearl Tower itself. The words and building fuse in the picture he paints on-screen. Shanghai is such a vibrant and inspiring city.” Also on May 15, Galliano will present his cruise collection for Christian Dior in Shanghai.

Which Leigh Lezark Paris Fashion Week Look Is Most Fab?
For those who don't know Leigh Lezark, allow me to introduce the model/famous MisShapes DJ. Not only is she cute and talented, she also has mad styling chops. During Paris Fashion Week, the American beauty made her rounds to runway shows showing off her unique flavor. For the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac show, she mixed black and white prints, giving off the ultimate eclectic vibe. At Christian Dior, she opted for a girly, moody print dress. However, it was John Galliano who brought out her fiery side with a flaming red coat and super fresh heels. She then changed into a black fringed Chanel frock for Karl. At the Kenzo show, Leigh paired a gray jumper with gold brocade jacket. Each outfit had its own quirky cool touch — which was your fave?
