>> THE MODELIZER —More details on that mysterious "major" London cover shoot that Sessilee Lopez and Chanel Iman both twittered about last Friday — apparently they were joined by Jourdan Dunn and Arlenis Sosa Pena, and according to The Imagist's sources, it's not the cover but the editorial inside that will have followers "sprinting down to the newstand."  It's still unclear which magazine commissioned the shoot — some say i-D (although Chanel is on the May 2009 cover), some say a Vogue.

Vogue Pays Tribute to Model Muses for May 2009

>> The wait is over.
Vogue May 2009:

>> The wait is over.  The May 2009 issue of Vogue, wholly dedicated to models in anticipation of this year's Model as Muse Costume Insitute Gala next month has debuted, and Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Maria Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini, and Natasha Poly all made the final cut, wearing what appears to be Rodarte.  This cover, shot by Steven Meisel, is notable not only because of its subjects, but because it marks the third consecutive cover to feature a woman of color on the front.

Inside, Natalia Vodianova, who has been called "the Baby" by Steven Meisel and makeup artist Pat McGrath since they starting working with her, collaborated with them again on a tribute editorial to models past, from Twiggy to Dovima, similar to the one Gisele Bundchen did for Harper's Bazaar last month.  The key to Natalia's chameleon act?  "I looked at each woman's lips — they're all different."

>> THE MODELIZER —More names have come up for the model-centric May 2009 Vogue cover: Anna Maria Jagodzinska and Lara Stone, the latter of which supposedly fulfills the "unexpected choice" hint indicating a model who's never before appeared in Vogue.  Together with the seven names that have already come up — Caroline Trentini, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Natasha Poly, Isabeli Fontana, Liya Kebede, and Natalia Vodianova, the rumored nine spots have been fulfilled.

The only problem is, the last two — Liya and Natalia — who were identified by RG Vogue, conflict with another source, who won't name names but say two models, one with the first initial K, and the other with the first initial A, were supposedly involved.  Perhaps there are eleven models?  Or maybe the list was edited somewhere along the way. >> THE MODELIZER —Naomi Campbell may greet the suggestion of passing the torch on to Jourdan Dunn with an irritated snort — "Jourdan Dunn isn't Naomi Campbell.  I've never said I'm retiring, And if I did want to stop working, I'd just do it quietly" — but it does make [her] "feel happy" to see Jourdan get covers and awards: "I'm just so thrilled."  Be prepared to be thrilled again, Naomi — according to Caroline Trentini, Jourdan is joining her and seven other models (seven now named, two unknown) on that foldout May 2009 Vogue cover.

Twelve British Models, Twelve i-D Covers for March 2009

>> Last week, Edward Enninful was in Goa, India, styling a shoot for Vogue, but this week, it's all about i-D and England — he brought together twelve British faces — past and present — for i-D's March 2009 Best of British issue.  "The confirmations were instant — it was about doing something for England, and models have been so faceless — British models always have personality."

Together with Solve Sundsbo, Enninful styled each of the twelve covers to bring out the character of the individual model — "I went though a great thought process — we didn't want clichés and stereotypes" — "rock 'n' roll Kate" Moss as a mature woman and fashion designer, "ageless" British models like Twiggy, newcomer Eliza Cummins, who is also moonlighting on the new Dazed & Confused (NSFW), symbolizing British grit with a snarl.  To further the emphasis on personality, each cover face has her own cover quote summing up her outlook, from Stella Tennant — "I don't really fit the box" — to Agyness Deyn — "Feel the fear and do it anyway."  Leave it to Naomi Campbell to bring the non sequitur: "I love a Sunday roast."

>> THE MODELIZER —The January 2009 issue of Vogue promises "Change," and so far has delivered twice — Coco Rocha's newfound red hair, and the replacement of the infamous leaping Brazilians (Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmerman, Gisele Bundchen) with a couple of new inductees: Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn.  In the straight-off-the-runway editorial, of course Chanel gets to wear the Chanel.  And if that doesn't get you, how about this: Chanel Iman's dog is named Louis Dior.

Best of 2008: Fab Face of the Year

Choosing between models is like choosing between children for me.

Choosing between models is like choosing between children for me. No joke. All year, I've been getting to know all types of gorgeous Fab Faces, but only six made the final cut. Natasha Poly has been everywhere, and for good reason. Have you seen her jawline? Chanel Iman is simply adorable. Coco Rocha always stands out with her personality and healthy glow. Daria Werbowy is no newbie but she's still going strong — both in campaigns and editorials. Jourdan Dunn emerged as a force on the catwalk. And Lara Stone, wow. She's bold enough for cutting-edge spreads and sexy enough for Victoria's Secret. All stunning, but who deserves the title Fab Face of the Year?

(Top Row: L-R, Natasha Poly, Chanel Iman, Coco Rocha)
