Fendi Fall 2013

Things have gotten more than a little hairy at Fendi.
Fendi Review | Fashion Week Fall 2013

Things have gotten more than a little hairy at Fendi. Karl Lagerfeld's Fall 2013 collection for the house, which he named Icons Unchained, seemed like a not-so-subtle commentary on the conspicuous reemergence of fur in luxury collections.

There were animal pelts all over this offering, including coats cut from stripes of alternating natural furs and hides dyed with neon colors, as well as booties, pencil skirts, scarves, and the house's Selleria handbags. There were even sunglasses whose stems were covered in fur, and all the models came down the runway with fox fur woven into french braids to create the effect of colorful mohawks.

As for the icons Lagerfeld was referring to, well, what's more iconic than opulence itself?

Fendi Fall 2013 Runway

The mantra at the Fendi Fall 2013 collection?

The mantra at the Fendi Fall 2013 collection? Fur — in every shade — on everything, and we mean everything. Even the shoes, bags, sunglasses, and tough-girl mohawks were adorned with it. Karl Lagerfeld zeroed in on fur (a pointed nod to the house's heritage), sleek lines, sexy slits, and enough neon and tactile intrigue to convince us of this collection's '80s-punk-meets-tribal leanings. But don't be fooled, this Nu-rave-esque lineup is also impeccably tailored, and the clothes, while bold in effect, are crafted with the utmost ladylike sensibility. Take, for example, the car coats styled with knee-length pencil skirts, or the cool cropped jackets paired with chic high-neck sheaths. There's an undeniable edge to the Fendi Fall '13 girl, but with a little (or a lot) of color and a clean silhouette, she's not as unapproachable as meets the eye.

Did Keira Knightley's Chanel Ad Deserve to Be Banned?

Not safe for children?

Not safe for children? Britain's Advertising Standards Authority has banned Keira Knightley's commercial for Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance from airing during programs aimed at kids, deeming it too "sexually suggestive."

The ad, in which Karl Lagerfeld describes the actress's character as a sort of Chanel superwoman, Knightley is seen riding a motorcycle to a photo shoot. Once there, a male photographer flirtatiously helps her out of her jumpsuit and boots, but before he knows what's happening, Knightley is fully dressed — helmet and all — riding away from the set.

In explaining its decision to ban the ad, the ASA pointed to a "clear sexual tension" between Knightley's character and the photographer and noted that "the photographer was directly involved in unzipping the actress' garments and that there was a suggestion that she was naked aside from a bed sheet . . . We considered the ad was suitable for older children, but that the sexually suggestive material was unsuitable for young children."

Is the ad really too racy for kids? Take a look at it below and tell us what you think.

Watch: The Mesmerizing Making of Chanel's Spring 2013 Couture Gowns

Chanel's Spring 2013 Couture collection was beautiful, but watching the pieces come to life in the hands of Chanel's artisans is almost as beautiful as the garments themselves.

Chanel's Spring 2013 Couture collection was beautiful, but watching the pieces come to life in the hands of Chanel's artisans is almost as beautiful as the garments themselves.

The house offers a closer look at how its one-of-a-kind creations are made in a new video called "Le Savoire Faire." In it, workers in Chanel's Couture ateliers are seen creating gowns with components from the embroidery studio Maison Lesage and from the feather and floral applique masters at Maison Lemarié. It's as mesmerizing to watch countless thousands of beads, silk flowers, crystals, and other embellishments come together as it is to watch the show itself. A look at the process in the video below.

In case anyone had forgotten about Karl Lagerfeld's legion of side projects — remember the helicopters? — there's now a behind-the-scenes video featuring The Kaiser hard at work on his latest one: a photo series for Italian furniture company Cassina.

The company announced that Lagerfeld would photograph some of its iconic designs in November, and the images he created will be on display at Cassina's Paris showroom from Jan. 31 to March 10.

In the video, Lagerfeld says his goal was to make the furniture appear "both mysterious and unusual while remaining a piece of furniture." A look at him doing just that in the video below.

Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2013

Traditionally, we look to flowers in bloom, foliage, and the prettiest kinds of dresses for Spring: Karl Lagerfeld does that, too, but we don't get all the trappings of tradition without Lagerfeld's eye for edgier nuance and modernized femininity.
Chanel Couture Spring 2013

Traditionally, we look to flowers in bloom, foliage, and the prettiest kinds of dresses for Spring: Karl Lagerfeld does that, too, but we don't get all the trappings of tradition without Lagerfeld's eye for edgier nuance and modernized femininity. For Chanel's Spring Couture, Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais in the heart of Paris into a private forest. Models stepped out onto a runway that resembled a hidden pathway, dotted with moss and greenery, making Lagerfeld's foray into Spring territory all the more authentic — and all the more lush. Gauzy, plush layers finished with feathered hemlines, floral appliqués, and pleated tiers gave dresses, both short and floor-length, a whimsical touch that Lagerfeld countered with straight off-the shoulder necklines and again in accessories. Never leaning too far toward romance or toward looking too far ahead to something entirely unfamiliar, the collection balances vintage-inspired silhouettes — ladylike elbow-length sleeves and gloves, Chanel's tweedy finishes, and a black, white, and navy palette — with lace and metallic thigh-high open-toe boots. It's very much about the neckline — attention must be paid to the layered off-the-shoulder cuts exposing yet another layer or the halter necklines revealing the collarbone and shoulders. And even when Lagerfeld delivers Spring bridal wear, he can't help but play with tradition — and not just because his two brides may be construed as a nod to same-sex marriage — but with a wedding dress done up in creamy white feathers and finished in layers of dreamy tulle. He marries the strong and soft — and makes us weak in the knees with every floaty hemline and every expertly crafted detail that results. Click through to see the collection in its entirety.
