Kimberly Ovitz Runway 2012 Fall

>> Night falls on Kimberly Ovitz's Fall 2012 collection. That is, dark, serious hues — mainly black and brown — defined the edgy pieces that came down the moody runway. Draping, asymmetry, sheerness, layering, and a play on proportions and textures consumed the powerful clothes. And except for a few minidresses and some sheer tops, there was barely any showing of skin — proof that sexy has a new badass face. On the accessories front, Kimberly kept things minimal, save for a couple off-kilter sashes and neck scarves made from pitch-black hair.

Fall 2011 New York Fashion Week: Kimberly Ovitz

Entering the Pace Gallery in Chelsea, one should expect some unusual artistic vision. That was exactly what Kimberly Ovitz delivered, in the form of a circle of models whose neon-painted faces were partially covered with netting. Freaky? Slightly. Luckily the clothes were more approachable. Ovitz applied modern, sculptural tailoring to knits and technical fabrics and layered them, so that a fitted leather jacket with a cropped back revealed a long fitted tee and an even longer skirt. Colorwise, it was mostly monochromatic, but bold pops of neon yellow or cobalt blue made a serious, edgy collection feel sporty.

  • Trends: Layering, maxi skirts, futuristic, sport chic.
  • Colors: Black, grey, white, cobalt blue, neon.
  • Key Looks: A black pencil skirt and black leather jacket.
  • Accessories: Camilla Skovgaard shoes.
  • Who Would Wear It: The woman who wants to kick butt and make spin class.

Who Wore It Better? Kimberly Ovitz Camel Pleated Dress

It's hard to compete with quirky Chloe, but Eliza Dushku is making the attempt.

It's hard to compete with quirky Chloe, but Eliza Dushku is making the attempt. They both wore Kimberly Ovitz's nude pleated dress, but in very different ways. Chloe went minimal, showing off her legs and cool caged Opening Ceremony boots. Eliza piled on the accessories: tights, patterned sandals, gilded jewelry, and a single black glove. Oh, and movie-star shades. Which attempt wins?
