Lanvin: Spring 2012

For Spring 2012, Alber Elbaz offered a collection of fluid, beautiful clothes that proffered modern ideas about strength, femininity, and wearability. For daywear, he paired high-waisted pencil skirts with oversized organza tees or exaggerated shoulder tops, but it didn't create a football player effect as you would think. Instead it seemed modern, sculpted and strong. Some skirts and dresses were stitched together loosely to create cutouts, a flirtratious approach to ladylike dressing, and a parade of gorgeously draped dresses were done in sheer chiffon, wore over bodysuits, for a look that admittedly wouldn't fly in real life without a slip, but were absolutely gorgeous to look at on the runway, especially styled with the stunning winged necklaces. Finally, there were dresses that had coiled jeweled snakes wrapped around the collar. Was it a reference to the original Eve? We're not sure, but the effect was ultra sexy and provocative, and we know we'll see those on the red carpet.

  • Trends: sheerness, ladylike dressing, cutouts, boudoir, draping, minimalism.
  • Colors: acid green, sky blue, blush, deep purple, charcoal.
  • Key Piece: snake-embellished dresses, draped dresses, the wide-shoulder dresses and tops.
  • Accessories: bird wing necklaces, oversized crosses, and other statement jewels.
  • Who Would Wear It: sophisticated women with a more modern approach to femininity, like Selma Blair, the Olsen twins, or Michelle Williams.

Lanvin Runway Retrospective

Founded in 1889 by milliner Jeanne Lanvin, the Lanvin label is known not only as the oldest French fashion house in operation, but also lauded as a favorite in modern womenswear. Jeanne began the label skillfully using embellishment, beading, and a floral palette, which would go on to become signatures of the Lanvin label. Today, it's a blend both of the brand's traditional style and Alber Elbaz's innate gift for designing what modern women want to wear. Since the designer joined the label in 2001, he has succeeded in delivering collections that encompass beautifully crafted silk dresses, pants, suits, and playful experiments with volume and proportion — and collections we are always anxious to see. Best Jewelry For Fall 2011

Thanks in part to the stunning Fall collections from Lulu Frost, Eddie Borgo, Kelly Wearstler, and more, we're feeling charmed and dangerous. The revival of sculptural glamour and natural materials has us smitten, and seeing old favorites like ribbon necklaces and two-finger rings is beyond exciting (personally, I'm still waiting on slap bracelets to make a comeback). There are so many new pretty pieces out there that it may actually make your head spin — which is why we've selected 20 of the best baubles to bring your Fall outfits into glam territory. Before you click through to see and shop our editors' picks, keep these tips in mind:

  • Bigger is better and actually lets you get away with less. Wearing one giant cuff bracelet or sticking to just a statement necklace packs a punch.
  • Don't be afraid to mix your metals. There's no law that says you have to wear gold with gold or silver with silver. A pewter cuff thrown into the mix with thin gold bangles looks fresh and modern.
  • You're already layering your clothes, so why not layer your necklaces? Double up on a long chain, or pile on multiple chest-grazing pieces to create your own cool, unique look.

Lanvin's Fall Ad Campaign Video Is the Best Thing We've Watched in a While

Let's just say that not all fashion ad campaign videos are created equal.

Let's just say that not all fashion ad campaign videos are created equal. House of Lanvin debuted a video that features supermodels Raquel Zimmermann and Karen Elson grooving in their swanky abode, decked in Lanvin's ready-to-wear and accessories, ready for a night out with two dapper men, but instead of going out, they get down in-house. The best part? We won't ruin the surprise, but there's an adorable guest appearance at the end of this video.
