>> In the wake of the womanly casting agendas at Prada, Giles, and Louis Vuitton for Fall 2010, The Imagist writes: "There's an unwritten memo now circulating . . . amongst a tight circle of model-makers and the message is this: the directive of the '00s to have armies of blank, disposable, lookalike girls marching at the service of the campaigns, magazines and the runways is over. New decade, new ideal . . . the early booking reports on the FW 10 campaigns and editorials is registering is a taste for ultra-individual girl." He hints that the Givenchy Fall 2010 ads and a Vogue Italia editorial currently being lensed both support the new direction.
Meanwhile, in a follow-up to yesterday's news that Monika "Jac" Jagaciak's exclusive with Calvin Klein is now over, word is the brand now has an exclusive with Lara Stone — reportedly for CK collection, Jeans, and cosmetics — a choice that could also be seen as indicative of the move toward distinctive models.
Don't It Make Lara's Brown Eyes Blue
Model Lara Stone has a gorgeous new fragrance campaign, a new fiancé, and a lot of clout in the industry right now. And in her new ads, she has something else new, too: a different eye color.
Look and you'll see that Lara's big brown eyes are a light greenish blue in the campaign for Prada Infusion D'Iris. No word on what prompted the change, but we suspect it may have been done to have her peepers better complement the color of the packaging. Critics might point to the ad as another example of Photoshop being taken too far, but is this change really any different from a model sporting colored hair? Your thoughts?

Ladies (and Gents!) Rejoice, Breasts are Back in Fashion

From left: Louis Vuitton, Giles Deacon, Prada, Louis Vuitton fall 2010
If Miuccia Prada started things off in Milan with her collection celebrating the curvaceous, full-hipped woman, then Marc Jacobs' And God Created Woman show yesterday for Louis Vuitton cemented the movement—boobs are back.
Both designers used fuller-than-the-average-runway-model women this season (as did Giles Deacon), looking to Victoria's Secret girls like Laetitia Casta and Bar Rafaeli, recent mothers Adriana Lim and Karolina Kurkova, and supermodel Elle Macpherson to fill out skirted sundresses, low-cut scoopnecks, and halter top bustiers.
“Designers are always saying they’re going to do a collection for women, but then every girl on the runway is under twenty,” Marc Jacobs said of his decision to cast a variety of ages and sizes for his fall 2010 Louis Vuitton show. “It’s a bit old-fashioned, I know, but I think it’s nice for a change.”
Adriana Lima, Bar Refaeli, Laetitia Casta, and Elle Macpherson Add Voluptuousness to Louis Vuitton's Fall 2010 Runway
>> Natalia Vodianova was front row yesterday at Louis Vuitton, but it was the cast on the runway for the And God Created Woman-themed show — after the Brigitte Bardot film — who demanded all the attention. After Miuccia Prada started the "womanly" casting trend this season, Giles and now Vuitton (both styled by Katie Grand) continued the idea.
Marc Jacobs's below-the-knee full skirts and bosom-baring scoopnecks were donned by opener Laetitia Casta, as well as Bar Refaeli, Noemie Lenoir, Lara Stone, and Catherine McNeil. Karolina Kurkova and Adriana Lima — both fresh off pregnancies — also walked, as did Lily Donaldson in her only show of the season. But the major closer: Elle Macpherson, who reportedly turned down Marc before rethinking and saying yes.
“Designers are always saying they’re going to do a collection for women, but then every girl on the runway (catwalk) is under twenty,” Jacobs said backstage. “I wanted a variety of ages and sizes. We set out to cast gorgeous women, women who feel happy to put their make-up on, get dressed up, get all their accessories.” “It’s a bit old-fashioned, I know, but I think it’s nice for a change.”

Miuccia Prada Flies Victoria's Secret Models in for Demure Fall 2010 Prada Show
>> A casting surprise was promised, and Miuccia Prada delivered: Victoria's Secret regulars like Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Bianca Balti all walked the labyrinthine runway — perhaps as a one-up to Givenchy, who cast Adriana Lima, and Balenciaga, who cast Kerr, in recent seasons. Also populating the Fall 2010 Prada cast: Lara Stone, Catherine McNeil in her first runway turn since a year ago, Mariacarla Boscono, Rose Cordero, and opener and closer Samantha Gradoville.
The show was preceded by cartoons portraying feminine cliches like "He loves me, he loves me not" while front rowers complained about the anchovy canapes handed out, but once the show started, it was all beehive hairdos, cat-eye librarian glasses, and A-line skirts in muted tones and vinyl-like finishes. Busts were enhanced with rows of ruffles and strategically placed darts, while knee-high pleated socks were finished off with pointy-toed patent pumps. A slow jazz soundtrack played, and the whole look — cable knit sweaters, sketchy plaid — earned a chorus of Mad Men comparisons. Apparently, when asked backstage, however, Miuccia said she had never seen the TV show. A video of the Prada show can be seen here.
Lara Stone Chats to Interview About Her Engagement, Who She Asked to Make Her Wedding Dress
>> Lara Stone, who just recently got engaged to British comedian David Walliams, covers the March 2010 issue of Interview (photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott); inside, she chats with Marc Jacobs — who she recently worked with on the Spring 2010 Louis Vuitton campaign — about the upcoming wedding, her stint in rehab, and all the attention on her body.
She tells Jacobs of fiance Walliams: "He's wonderful. He's amazing. He makes me laugh. He's a proper gentleman. He's a bit mean but in a good way. I'm happy." The engagement was just announced at the end of last month, and Stone says she hasn't really started to make wedding plans "because I haven't been home at all since we got engaged." She does, however, know what she'll be wearing: "I asked Riccardo [Tisci] to make my dress."

Lara Stone and David Walliams Are Engaged!
>> Rumors about Kate Moss's engagement haven't been confirmed, but those of another model has: Lara Stone has gone and gotten engaged to British comedian David Walliams.
The two have been dating since May, and Walliams confirmed to the Sun: "It's true, we're engaged and blissfully happy. I wasn't planning to make a public announcement because I'm not a royal — yet."
Stone and Walliams have just returned from Brazil, where Lara was working; David surprised her yesterday by turning up at her hotel. He supposedly called Stone's parents for their blessing before presenting her with a vintage engagement ring he bought in Los Angeles — picture of the ring in the gallery below. The wedding should be one to remember — not least because word is he's already requested Giles Deacon do his wedding dress — his, not Lara's.
