Spring Shopping: Tough Ruffles From Azzaro, Marchesa, Isabel Marant, and Thomas Wylde

The spring looks filed under ruffled and frilled (Valentino's frothy tops and dresses come to mind) might not work for those of us less inclined to dress like a box of pastries, but thankfully some favorite, harder-edged designers (think Isabel Marant and Thomas Wylde) have provided a tougher way to wear ruffles.

In a season full of candy-colored pastels, we're especially grateful for the options above in black, gray, and teal.

Fall 2010 Campaign Update: Givenchy, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Roberto Cavalli

Meisel also shot the Lanvin campaign this week in New York, with Alber Elbaz overseeing another trio: Anja Rubik, Magdelena Frackowiak and Mariacarla Boscono.

Givenchy, too, is rumored to be going with a trio of female models — Ming Xi, Joan Smalls, and Mariacarla Boscono — joined by a few male models in front of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott's lens. But the trio trend breaks there — word going around is that Meisel captured 12 girls for Balenciaga, including Finnish newcomer Kirsi Pyrhonen, and Roberto Cavalli is going solo with Gisele Bundchen shot by Mert and Marcus.

Jacobs will serve as Duffy's best man, and both grooms will wear Marc Jacobs suits in front of 86 guests, including numerous company employees. “We have been living our life together and sort of making steps towards this. But it really didn’t become like a thing that I would do [until recently],” Duffy said. “It just never entered my mind.” [WWD]

But in fact, Marc Jacobs has reportedly gone with two models for Fall 2010, neither of which walked the runway — Natalia Vodianova, who sat front row at the show, and Christy Turlington.  The campaign will apparently be shot next week with Karl Templer, not show stylist Katie Grand, doing styling honors. Vogue, Vogue Paris Seem Undeterred by Terry Richardson Allegations

>> Last week, Marc Jacobs spoke out in support of Terry Richardson after allegations of sexual harassment came to light.  And just days after the news came out, it appeared that Richardson was collaborating on a shoot with Carine Roitfeld for Vogue Paris, based on pictures posted on his blog of Roitfeld, Lara Stone, and Freja Beha Erichsen.

Over the past weekend, Doutzen Kroes Tweeted "Goodmorning Miami, working for Vogue today!" and posted a picture with the caption reading. "My hair is a little messy from being on the beach shooting for American Vogue." It appears that Richardson was the photographer on the shoot — he posted a picture taken over the weekend of Doutzen on the beach, with a caption reading, "Shooting Doutzen in Miami."

A number of anonymous fashion insiders polled by Fashionista said they didn't expect the allegations to have any lasting effects on Richardson's career, and judging by Marc Jacobs's, Vogue's, and Vogue Paris's continued support, they seem to be correct.

10 Hints Marc Jacobs Never Found Clothes Sexy

Last night at the French Institute Alliance Francaise Fashion Talks Series, Marc Jacobs said he never found clothes sexy.
Marc Jacobs Doesn't Find Clothes Sexy

Last night at the French Institute Alliance Francaise Fashion Talks Series, Marc Jacobs said he never found clothes sexy. At all. "I find people sexy, and I find personalities fascinating and sexy and appealing and charming," he said. "So a sexy girl wrapped in a sheet is a sexy girl, and an unsexy girl in a low-cut dress is still an unsexy girl."

Yet, while models may do the walking on runways, the clothes do the talking. I went through hundreds of Marc Jacobs looks to find his unsexiest creations. To be fair, it was hard! He consistently puts out some of the most wearable-looking clothing. But sometimes when you wrap a sexy girl in a fanny pack, you'll find an unsexy outfit.

>> Following Monday's "Fashion Talks" discussion at the French Institute Alliance Francaise, the Wall Street Journal approached Marc Jacobs to get his thoughts on the recent controversy surrounding Terry Richardson's work habits, which Terry himself addressed over the weekend.

When asked whether sexy photoshoots with young models should be more closely monitored by the industry, Jacobs replied: “I’ve worked with Terry and Terry has asked me to do some crazy things. I know that those pictures will exist if I do them. But I’m a big boy and I can say no.”

He said that he hadn't heard about the controversy, adding that Richardson is “not ill-spirited.” Then, Jacobs went further to say about the industry in general: “If a girl is underage, maybe the girl’s agent or chaperone should be present on the shoot. That’s the hard part. Who’s to blame or who’s to watch?”
