We were so sad when Jane Mayle's clothing collection went down in '08, but it looks like the designer known for her effortlessly cool wares is back for a minicollaboration with Club Monaco. That's right, Mayle has teamed up with the fashion retailer to design a five-piece handbag collection set to launch in stores and online on Oct. 3. The collection features a range of classic-brown and forest-green leather and suede handbags and overnight duffels priced from $195 to $595 — ideal for pairing with all of your Fall ensembles. Check out all of the pieces in the slideshow, and mark your calendar for the release date next month!

Jane Mayle's Limited-Edition Bag Collection Just Hit Barneys Online
>> Jane Mayle retired her Mayle line in February 2009 but popped up again with a capsule collection in New York at the end of September (and is headed to Los Angeles starting tomorrow, Dec. 3 though Dec. 12 at 8432 Melrose Place). Finally, the online sector is getting a piece of the action. A selection of her limited-edition bags, which retail for $295 to $795, just hit Barneys online. “I really enjoy making bags,” Mayle recently told Vogue. “It’s the way my mind works; I try to create a whole mini universe.”
Jane Mayle's Fall 2010 Capsule Collection, Kamikaze of Love, Debuts Today
>> After disappearing in February 2009, Jane Mayle is back with a Fall 2010 capsule collection of dresses, coats, tops, handbags, called Kamikaze Full of Love, plus shoes and boots in collaboration with Sigerson Morrison (sketch at left), all launching today at the Sigerson Morrison Laboratory Boutique on 19 East 71st Street in Manhattan. The line will be available through Oct. 14, and new goods are expected to arrive at the store each week.
Mayle describes the line as "the result [of] only making things because I feel like it rather than being constrained to do so. The pop-up is titled 'Kamikaze of Love' for a reason. The pieces are only those that I want to wear now and don't necessarily work together as a "collection" because I didn't feel the regular dictates of the industry to flesh out a design story for the purposes of things hanging together in any other place than my own closet. This really is my wardrobe of right now."
So does this indicate a return to fashion? "There's so much about this pop-up approach that I find very appealing. It feels very light which is definitely the most appropriate incarnation of Mayle for now. I'm enjoying not knowing if there will be more Mayle in a fashion context and being open to what might come next or what I'm moved to put out there — I'm looking forward to surprising myself. I feel so lucky that I now get to respond to my mood of the moment and create something from that and then move on to another medium or collaboration. That fluidity and variety is bliss! There's a floating sort of ease to the pieces which I'm really enjoying and there were just fabrics I couldn't resist and got me on the subway and up into the garment district again . . . they made me do it!"
>> Jane Mayle Returning with Pop-Up Shop, Sigerson Morrison Collaboration —Cult favorite designer Jane Mayle shuttered her 10-year-old contemporary line, Mayle, and closed her Manhattan boutique in February 2009, citing the accelerating fashion calendar as the cause. A year and a half later, it sounds like she's edging her way back — late last week, a message was sent out to her email list: "I wanted to let everyone in on a little secret. Jane Mayle is making a comeback in the form of a pop-up shop in late September. It will last for about 3 weeks. Dresses, coats, tops, handbags, shoes, and boots. A full collection for Fall 2010! Along with this Mayle pop-up, Jane is also collaborating with Sigerson Morrison (uptown) with shoes/boots, and they will also be carrying select pieces from the line." Trend Alert: Leather Trimmings
I live in my wooly jackets in the Winter, but they're not the most exciting crop of coats. If you feel me, try one with leather trimmings. This slick embellishment adds a dose of refinement to outerwear without losing warmth. I like how the leather trimming gives this Mackage Short Notch Collar Wool Coat ($883) a sharp appeal. Now you have no excuse to sacrifice style for comfort.
A Look We Love: Crop Tops

They haven't proliferated the retail shelves just yet but they will, so long as the Spring 09 runways have anything to do with it. Crop tops, whether they're silk or cotton, super-short or just slightly above the waistline, are a great compliment to the true-rise and high waist pants we'll be seeing for seasons to come, and, they're a great layering trick for slipping over dresses and tunics. Don't get us wrong, we're not advocates of the midriff as a fashion statement but we do love this look. It's a trend that lets you get creative with your outfit and that, in the end, is something we can never turn down.
