Milan Fashion Week fall 2007

Dolce & Gabbana are metallic manic. But I must say, it suits them. They delivered a dazzling production full of blinding dresses, sexy suiting and cosmic beauties. A couple of beauties being the Dolce & Gabbana muses: Gisele (no last name required here) and Monica Bellucci.

I have been blinded by these otherworldly creations. You may recall the duo went majorly sci fi for their Spring collection and here they took it to another galaxy. The materials vary from plastic to silk to I don't know what, but there was an extreme mix of hard and soft. There was something for everyone - everyone with the balls to sport them. The collection was led by the dress. The suiting was provocative and strong; the daywear was sultry and crafty; the eveningwear was pure fashion orgasmica. I particularly enjoyed the colored metallics - the red is so juicy. The final pieces were sheer, corseted and beaded; the catwalk doesn't get much sexier than this.

Here is one of my all time favorites, inspiring me yet again to be a creative force. Marni is the designer for the thoroughly modern Milanese.

Though elements were a bit all over the place, to me that is what makes Marni beautiful. You look at this collection and the clothes look like a canvas. With muted brights, neutrals and white, artsy prints and jeweled accents deliver typical, delightful Marni fare. I think Consuela Castiglioni mixed things up with her sculptured layering and experimental textures. I am so digging the heeled tights - not stirrups - they expose the sexy top of the foot. Silhouettes were mixed with pants, skirts and dresses but there was an overall boxy aura that still managed to be feminine. My only complaint: too many belts were in the mix. Zippers added a sporty element and fur hoods and trim added luxury. One day, one day, I will be able to afford Marni, and when I can I hope it's still this awesome.

Hot stuff! The Fall Roberto Cavalli collection gave me a nice afternoon awakening. There is no doubt as to why Cavalli is a red carpet favorite....

Flowing, sexed up gowns belted at the waist, in addition to a low plunging neckline, are fan worthy. The warm tones made for a happy, sunshiney runway. Opulence was abundant with leather, fur, reptile skins, silk and leopard prints. An awesome art nouveau print was a lovely addition. There was a Grecian touch, as well as 70s and 80s seduction and power dressing. There were many metallics but this is one collection where I didn't mind it because it just works with the raw sensuality of Cavalli. Interesting to note: I thought this was a glammed up version of the Marc Jacobs Fall show with the Yves Saint Laurent references and bold suiting - Does anyone agree?

I have one issue though: jodhpurs? This is one fashion item that does not play well on this runway!

Jil Sander devotees are sharp suiters. Streamlined, clean concepts are always expected and for Fall designer Raf Simons delivered.

Understated yes, boring no. Really, when I viewed this collection it had a calming effect. Necklines were experimental: boatneck, draped, one shoulder and the house's signature turtleneck. Precise daywear in muted colors, with a splash of grape, white and what I call 'Jil Sander cobalt blue,' were starkly beautiful. The top and skirt sets weren't anything special but the coats and finale dresses sure were. Particularly, a black slim cocooned cape and white one shoulder dress. Subtle pleats, gorgeous leather and crisp metallics added flair.

Why I declare: Miucca Prada has gone eco. Her bewildering Fall collection is hard to explain, as Prada often is, so I will do my best. She declares this collection was "something simple but strange." Indeed!

I saw eco in raw hems, a puckering effect in skirts and dresses (that I'm not a bit fan of) and her bold greens and oranges. The green even looked like - dare I say - Astroturf. The dropped silhouette in many coats and dresses has a 20s feel; I liked it in a long cardigan and skirt pairing, not so much in coats. Matte metallics were a nod to the future, as were the plasticized leathers. Some pieces were atrocious while others stole my heart; the colorful furry mohair coats made me want to bundle up immediately and the color block knee socks were just so cool and innovative. Minimal shifts, coats and knits were reminiscent of Prada's debut in the 90s. A bit awkward at first, I'm sure I'll warm up to this truly fashion forward collection.

I absolutely adored Burberry Prorsum's Spring collection. Christopher Bailey is proving to be the smart choice to revive the classic brand. So I was excited to see what Fall would look like...

At first I saw: dark and tough, which was a bit frightening. Inspired by the Prorsum knight, I definitely see medieval references. Metallics looked like shimmering armor, reptilian gloves looked downright creepy and the models looked ready for battle. Then, the collection softened, delivering absolutely fabulous outerwear. Mostly belted, there were deconstructed and reconstructed trenches, sporty parkas and stadium jackets. Mini post it pleats and ruffles added a much needed trickle of femme. A couple of surprises were a pretty leafy print and a dusty violet color. Here's a collection based on old ideas that managed to look to the future.

Welcome to a more casual Giorgio Armani Fall collection - which is not a bad thing. Looks worn with flats set the tone for this played down show. Also, if you take into account the beautiful draping and beading, casual does not mean non-luxurious.

Mostly jacket and skirt pairings was surprising - leaving me wondering where all the dresses were. But the jacket and skirt duos were supreme. There was mild bubbling and draping of the hems while still managing to create a streamlined silhouette. Soft tweeds and peplum created texture with flowing signature silk. In soft neutrals, pastels and a bit of navy there was just the right amount of volume. A whimsical butterfly print was a pleasant surprise as was the beaded detached sleeves. A black and white stripe was lovely, but I'm over stripes personally. Strapless was a player, but I really enjoyed the thin jet crystal straps that graced a couple of shoulders.

Blugirl is what I would call the Italian equivalent of Betsey Johnson. The bridge line of Blumarine, this spunky design house always delivers fun party frocks for the ultimate party girl.

The Fall collection delivered no less - and a bit too much. While I would love a party to wear the acid bright cocktail dresses to, I'm afraid I'm not enough of a jet setter. But if you are...

Plaids, leopards, and polka dots are the motifs of choice; while black with cherry red, cobalt, canary yellow and fuchsia are the colors du jour. Less bright grey and black and white stripes are cute for day. Bright duchesse satin and flirty floral prints are a bit over the top - but full of fantasy nonetheless. And those hats; I'm loving those little riding hats with colored rosettes right smack on them.
