>> Yves Saint Laurent Has Another Manifesto in the Bag —In what is quickly becoming Fashion Week tradition, Yves Saint Laurent has a new edition of its Manifesto, this time housed in a strawberry-printed tote — the fruit motif appeared all over Stefano Pilati's Spring 2010 collection for the label. On February 16, over half a million copies of the Manifesto (which includes images of brand face Natalia Vodianova captured by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin) will be distributed in Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong and, for the first time, Berlin — with the first 2,000 passersby receiving the tote as well.
Fab Ad: Stella McCartney, Spring '10
For Spring, Stella McCartney left Bambi in the woods for something nearer and dearer to her heart: Lucky, her pet Dalmatian. "I love the way it’s very graphic and soft at the same time, due to its double exposure,” said McCartney when describing the photo of Lucky, which was taken by her mother, Linda McCartney, in '76. Combine that with the magical work of Fab model of 2009, Natalia Vodianova, and photogs Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and you have a whimsical masterpiece. The opposing elements between Stella's designs and the black and white backdrop is eye catching and interesting.
Stella describes the contrast as "fashion meets reportage, mixing color, and black-and-white. A family animal with an outside atmosphere meets studio lights, camera, action! Opposites meeting in one image, illustrating the masculine and feminine sides of the Stella McCartney brand." I kinda love it, do you?
Stella McCartney's Childhood Pet Makes Appearance in Spring Campaign

A photo Stella McCartney's late mother took of the family's pet dalmatian, Lucky, serves as backdrop to McCartney's spring ad campaign, which also features Natalia Vodianova. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, McCartney styled the images, saying they were "fashion meets reportage, mixing color, and black-and-white. A family animal with an outside atmosphere meets studio lights, camera, action!"
“I love the way it’s very graphic and soft at the same time, due to its double exposure,” said McCartney of her mother’s photo, which was taken in 1976.” About working with Mert and Marcus, McCartney told WWD: “I have known Marcus since I was a teenager and Mert from when they first met, but we never had the chance to work together. I wanted to capture their high-glamour approach over my mum’s low-maintenance way of working.”
The ads break in March titles fashion titles, Pop, V, and British, French, and Italian editions of Vogue.
Givenchy Spring 2010 Couture: Feathers, Frills, and . . . Bermuda Shorts
>> Givenchy started forty minutes late this evening, due in part to the delayed arrival of Riccardo Tisci favorite Ciara — the photographers booed her on her way in. Speaking of arrivals — muse Mariacarla Boscono wasn't able to make it, so fellow brand face Natalia Vodianova, fresh of her Etam lingerie collection presentation yesterday, filled in.
Lampshade hats fit atop some models's heads, while others donned ruffles and jewel tones galore. But the most unexpected trend emerging from the couture catwalk, courtesy of Chanel and now Givenchy: the bermuda short.
Paris: Etam Spring 2010 Lingerie Collection
>> Karl Lagerfeld On What to Expect at Chanel Couture —When Karl Lagerfeld showed up to take his usual front row seat at Dior Homme Saturday (he shoots the brand's campaigns), he was feeling generous with hints on what to expect at the Chanel Spring 2010 couture show tomorrow: “Two words: neon baroque.” Chanel isn't the only headlining act yet to play this week in Paris: Natalia Vodianova is hosting a dinner for her lingerie collection with Etam, for which Charlotte Gainsbourg will perform, and Kate Moss is holding a Longchamp party at the Ritz, with a Queens of Noize performance promised. Fab Ad: Yves Saint Laurent, Spring '10
Well, look who we have here: our 2009 model of the year, Natalia Vodianova, starring in Yves Saint Laurent's Spring '10 ad campaign. Superb choice, Stefano! The Russian stunner took the title from Fall '09 face Christy Turlington. It maintains the same intensity, but as opposed to Fall's colorless campaign, this one is rather bright, perfect for Spring. Natalia is fresh, as are the clothes and the pink background. What do you make of YSL's Spring ad?
Fab Ad: Givenchy, Spring '10
I always look forward to Riccardo Tisci's ads for Givenchy and this one doesn't disappoint. Yet again it's a seriously sexy lineup, this time with a new addition: 2009 model of the year Natalia Vodianova! Givenchy mainstay Mariacarla Boscono is back, as are a gaggle of hot men. Whereas Riccardo usually sticks to solids, there are lots more prints in the Spring line, making these ads more visually exciting. What do you think of it?
