This season's boot is taking on a militia movement encompassing hard-edged touches via distressed finishes, chunky heels, lug soles, and earthy hues. Styles vary from hard core, like See by Chloe's studded leather and velvet lace-up boots, to a more polished vibe as shown by this Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem floral-print silk ankle boot. Either way will leave you armed and ready for fashion combat.

The Fashion Lounge member JazzyBelle2 highlights Nicholas Kirkwood's Fall '10 shoe collection. Thoughts?

Nicholas Kirkwood's Fall/Winter collection for Rodarte. I've read that they were inspired and made to look like melted candle wax. Interesting.

Sarah Jessica Parker continued her Sex and the City 2 promotions, this time stopping by David Letterman's studios in NYC. Like all her recent outfits, this one is incredibly snazzy; Carrie would be proud. The sequined zebra Blumarine dress is sexy, while her white Stella McCartney blazer gives boyish flair. A gold crossbody bag, matching gold bracelets, and to-die-for Nicholas Kirkwood sandals act as fabulous sidekicks.

Rodarte

Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte's First Knitting Project was a Sweater for a Pet Lizard

>> "We were losers," Rodarte's Kate Mulleavy proclaimed to the audience who came to hear her and sister Laura get peppered with questions at FIT in New York Tuesday night.

>> "We were losers," Rodarte's Kate Mulleavy proclaimed to the audience who came to hear her and sister Laura get peppered with questions at FIT in New York Tuesday night. Kate was speaking of the time before she and Laura were designers, and instead were college graduates, sitting at home watching six films a day. Laura eventually picked up a waitressing gig, but as for Kate, she did, in her own words, "nothing." Later, Kate added of their current state: "Technically, we shouldn't even be up here. In a weird way, it's like we had a stream of circumstances where I look at now and think, 'This is so crazy that this happened to us.' But we're probably the least likely people that it should have happened to."

Sarah Jessica Parker took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, wearing Summer white to the Paley Center for Media in New York City. Her silk draped dress flattered her incredibly toned body in a sexy and subtle way, and in true SJP form, she used the power of accessories to make the look all her own. Blue peep-toe Nicholas Kirkwood heels, an oversize heart pendant, and a sparkly cross-body purse provided the finishing touches. Get a similar look using these items now!

BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund Announces Fashion Award Finalists for 2010

The British Fashion Council and Vogue Designer Fashion Fund announced the shortlist of finalists eligible to win cash prizes and industry mentorship as part of an initiative to help U.K.-based designers take their businesses to the next level.

The British Fashion Council and Vogue Designer Fashion Fund announced the shortlist of finalists eligible to win cash prizes and industry mentorship as part of an initiative to help U.K.-based designers take their businesses to the next level. The nominated brands for 2010 include Christopher Kane, Richard Nicoll, Erdem, Marios Schwab, Clements Ribeiro, E.Tautz, Nicholas Kirkwood, and Angel Jackson. As with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in the U.S., finalists will be evaluated throughout a season, with judges conducting studio visits and attending fashion presentations.

"I think we'll all come with our own criteria of what we think is important for success," Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman said of the judging process. "It's a design talent married with an ability to grow a business and to be able to take part in the international industry as opposed to being on the fringe of it."

Harrods, Burberry, HSBC, Marks and Spencer, and Paul Smith are among the companies that have contributed to the British Fashion Fund this year. Winners will be announced in April, and the judging process will be documented in the May issue of British Vogue.

Anna Wintour Wants to See Rodarte Design for Schiaparelli, and Other Sundry Details from the Mulleavys' New Yorker Profile

>> In the Jan.

>> In the Jan. 18, 2010 edition of the New Yorker, Amanda Fortini profiles Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte and their quest to go against your typical "high gloss, high fashion, glamour, put-together, shiny, perfect — everything too exact" label, in the words of Laura.  The Fall 2009 thigh-high wraparound boots Nicholas Kirkwood created for Rodarte, for example, were meant to evoke "hands wrapped in plastic in a morgue."

Kate told the magazine, "The most unhappy Laura or I have ever been was when we heard we made 'a pretty dress.' We want to make people think, and, once you decide to do that, you will have people that don't like what you're doing."  She later added, "The other day, we were laughing that if we could take our clothes and bury them, and in ten years take them out, we would actually be satisfied [with how they look]."

Matthew Williamson Designs Spring 2010 Accessory Collection with Atelier Swarovski

Matthew Williamson debuted his first accessory collection in collaboration with Atelier Swarovski on the runway for spring 2010.

Matthew Williamson debuted his first accessory collection in collaboration with Atelier Swarovski on the runway for spring 2010.

Williamson's inspiration for the crystal cuffs, breastplate necklaces, and evening clutches was drawn from the artist Jim Lambie, who is best know for arranging brightly colored tape into geometric patterns. As a result the accessory collection consists of vibrantly colored, oversized graphic pieces—much in line with Williamson's signature aesthetic.

For the spring collections Atelier Swarovski also worked with Zaha Hadid (zigzag-shaped rings), Jason Wu (sculptural necklaces) and Nicholas Kirkwood to create exclusive crystal jewelry and accessories. Past designer collaborations have included Christopher Kane, Doo.Ri Chung, Hussein Chalayan, Giles Deacon, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, and Philip Crangi.
