Across the pond in Paris and London, fashion insiders from all parts of the world are opting to sling their jackets over their shoulders rather than wear them fully. Why? Because it makes for a nonchalant look that elevates your chic status times 10. Everyone from Liv Tyler to Katy Perry to Carine Roitfeld and so many more celebs are embracing the Euro-style trend with blazers, jackets, and coats of all styles. But even if you don't live in Europe, or aren't even visiting soon, that doesn't mean you can't get in on the sharp trend. Step inside to see which fashion insiders have slung their jackets over their shoulders and to shop similar pieces for your next jacket-slinging effect.
New York Fashion Week wrapped last Thursday and we've compiled our gallery of must-have outerwear. Whether it's a tailored peacoat or an exuberant fur, these are our favorites. The big trend to emerge thus far in outerwear is a big cozy blanket coat, as seen at Rag and Bone. When it comes to a designer whose entire outerwear line we would like to own, it has to be Altuzarra, who might have been looking to Morocco when he designed Fall 2012, but he didn't let go of his sleek, urbane silhouettes. Click through to see our favorite coats from the New York Fashion Week runways right now, and check back when we update the latest coats from this week's shows.
For its unmatched ability to add dimension to nearly any look, the biker jacket tops our list as one to have for Fall. Clearly, we're not alone — this crew of street-styled and red carpet celebs proves that a slick leather jacket has a place just about anywhere. Whether it's furthering the cool factor on a casual look, like Beyoncé's, or lending a little contrast to a girlier look, à la Blake Lively, this layer is a cool-weather essential. You could very well live in it all season long — and we just might. Click through to see how Emma Watson, Poppy Delevigne, Rachel Bilson, and more style up their versions, and then shop for your own.
We often look to Diane Kruger for red carpet inspiration — now let's take a lesson from her cold-weather routine. The actress was spotted shooting a movie in Berlin wearing a bundled-up outfit that's cozy cool. She kept her look dim but injected some light via an ivory knit beanie and red hoodie. Mortal combat boots lend a rough edge.

Puffer coats are nothing new, but fashionable puffers have become a hot outerwear trend, especially in cold-weather destinations like New York City. This J.Jill Cocooning Puffer Coat ($160, originally $180) is totally sleek despite its voluminous shape. I especially dig the dramatic collar and suave hue. But, I stumbled upon another puffer that's a bit more trendy and way less pricey. Let's see it.
First we gave you 15 perfect white shirts. We continue our Back to Basics tour with what sits on top of the shirt — a coat. Trench coat, to be exact. This style of outerwear has been around since World War I. It was first made for British and French soldiers. Of course, we can't mention trench coats without mentioning Burberry, one of its inventors. The trench has come a long way since, and has taken a life of its own. Cropped, long, embellished, colored, printed, metallic — the possibilities are endless. Proceed to discover my favorites.

Upon walking to work today, I noticed a very stylish girl wearing a camel coat, skinny black jeans, and booties. At first glance, it didn't look like anything to ogle over, but something about her outfit was extra special — a-ha! It was her short sleeve coat. See, she layered a pretty semi-sheer black chiffon blouse underneath her wool jacket for a cool textural effect, and of course, added warmth. I like it!
