The studly vest is an elusive thing. It can be rocker, it can be bohemian, it can be Balmain! Or all of the above for Beyonce with Jay-Z in España. Without her fierce vest, B's outfit would have been ho-hum, but she knows the power of this slice of style. I'm thinking a studded vest is the perfect piece for a Summer concert, or — if you're feeling experimental — throw one over a bikini for a rebellious beach party look. Work it, own it . . .

Fabcon Zoe Kravitz is always in the fashion know, so it wasn't surprising to see her wearing a tailored and cropped tuxedo jacket from Alexander Wang's Fall collection. This shorter cut looks insanely cute against a long top — look at Zoe for inspiration — or when paired with a flirty frock. See, it's all about contrasting different lengths for a fun, new look. I'm a sucker for a multi-functional fashion piece and this Pencey Tube Skirt ($198) is tricky. We all agree Pencey is a new favorite designer, and stripes are always cool, so this tube skirt has Fab written all over it. The lightweight jersey fabric skirt comes in white with either black or lemon yellow stripes, and can be adjusted via ties on the sides. They call it a skirt, but I'm wondering if it can be cinched up, belted, and even be worn as a third-option tube dress. It's items like this that make my imagination run wild . . .

Among the many commonalities Shopbop and I share is our intense adoration for all things Pencey. Shopbop houses many of the brand's dope dresses, leggings, blazers, skirts, and scarves. The more I see their pieces, the more I crave them. Currently, I'm crushing on the one-shoulder dress and ripped cutoff shorts (below), and the coral blazer romper. Notice how not only are their clothes unique, but so are their too-cool-for-school styling methods. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with designers Kate Wendelborn and Christina Minasian about their craft, their closets, and their inspiration.

What type of girl do you design for?
We design for ourselves, our friends, and any girl who wants to stand out in a crowd.

Most of your pieces are off-kilter and experimental. Are they a reflection of your own personal styles?
The pieces are not so experimental themselves. It's more in the way that you wear them. Pencey is definitely a reflection of both our styles.

Is there any item you refuse to work with or is it all fair game for Pencey?
Pretty much all fair game. Our minds change every five minutes.
