Target announced today that it is collaborating with designer Phillip Lim on an exclusive Fall 2013 collection, slated to hit Target stores on Sept. 15. The range will feature over 100 items for both men and women, including apparel, shoes, bags, and travel accessories — all priced between $20-$300. We can also expect the collection to be rooted in a classic autumnal palette, and collaboration line aside, the designer will stick to his signature modern, sophisticated aesthetic. Phillip Lim explained that he's been "intrigued by the idea of a design evolution" since an early age, and is excited at the prospect of creating a collection "that would inspire — one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible." Does that mean we'll see a Pashli look-alike?
In honor of the designer's big collaboration news, we've rounded up some of our favorite 3.1 Phillip Lim runway looks over the years — as well as Target's video sneak peek and your first look at Lim's sketches. Click through to see them all now, and don't forget to mark your calendars for Sept. 15!
All things are pointing towards '90s grunge this season — just look to the runways of 3.1 Phillip Lim, Dries Van Noten, and Saint Laurent — and now, we're starting to see some of our favorite style stars sporting the look on the street. Case in point: Alexa Chung was spotted in London over the weekend looking nothing short of effortlessly cool in a black-and-white plaid Paul Smith dress cinched at the waist with a skinny black belt. This dress can easily teeter between polished and punk, depending on how you accessorize it, but we love how Alexa opted for the latter, styling her look with black chunky-soled oxfords and gray socks. Inspired? Channeling the same look is actually quite easy; all you need is a rad plaid dress and semitough footwear, like boots from Dr. Martens or old-school leather penny loafers. Shop Alexa's exact plaid dress, plus more affordable options, below.
Olga Kurylenko made a strong case for high slits at her latest red carpet appearance, and needless to say, she has us convinced that we need one, too. The stylish actress attended the Moves Magazine party in NYC decked out in a svelte green dress by Altuzarra paired with matching buckle boots. While the overall length and fit of her dress are pretty modest, the sleek side slit detail adds just the right amount of party appeal. We also love the idea of wearing this look to the office (dress code permitting) styled with a sleek blazer and pumps, and if you're looking for less of a commitment, opt for a side-slit skirt and pair it with a semisheer blouse or silk tank for your next cocktail meetup. Now, ready to show some leg? Shop our editors' picks below.
Reese Witherspoon's 3.1 Phillip Lim Ava pumps ($179, originally $450) have helped amp up her Spring style, and now it's time they do the same for you — at 60 percent off! (Side note: we love how they share the same name as her daughter.) There are many things we adore about these colorblocked pumps: the two-tone detail makes them stand out among a sea of classic pumps, the mix of fuchsia and burgundy works well for day and night, plus the d'Orsay cut gives them a vintage flair. And, of course, the majorly discounted price tag means they won't break your budget. Win-win in our book. Work Reese's exact pumps into your Spring style, but first, read a few easy tips on how to get the most wear out of them.
- Follow Reese's lead, and dress up your favorite denim by pairing them with your colorblocked pumps. Finish with a chambray top for a fresh denim-on-denim outfit.
- For a classic look, wear these pumps with a little black or white dress for day or night.
- For an edgier evening look, sport your new pumps with leather — it can be a dress, skirt, shorts, or pants.
- For a work-appropriate ensemble, match your pumps with a silky button-down and cropped trousers.
