Michelle Obama Picks Jason Wu For Inaugural Ball Gown — Again!

Michelle Obama has actually managed to outdo herself in one fell, custom ruby-red Jason Wu gown, er, swoop. Yes, the FLOTUS has stayed loyal to the young American designer who was behind her ethereal white Inaugural Ball gown four years ago, and the creation at hand is just as stunning. The chiffon-and-velvet halter-style gown, complete with a subtly sexy V-shaped back and a custom Kimberly McDonald diamond halter ring at the neckline, isn't lacking in all-American glamour. In addition, Michelle donned Jimmy Choo heels and a wristful of gold bangles. This latest ensemble, albeit the most formal, comes at the end of a long day of history-making outfits. We first spotted the FLOTUS leaving St. John's Church in a navy printed Thom Browne coat (dress not visible!), along with black J.Crew pumps and Cathy Waterman diamond stud earrings. Along the way, she punched it up with a seriously embellished J.Crew waist belt, proving her continued prowess in the outfit-revamp department. And her third look, at the inaugural luncheon, was perfectly polished (read: a striped Thom Browne sheath partnered with a cropped blue Reed Krakoff cardigan). Which Inaugural Ball Siren Did It Best — Jennifer or Alicia?

No matter how you spin it, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys took a no-holds-barred approach to evening-gown glamour and the stage.

No matter how you spin it, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys took a no-holds-barred approach to evening-gown glamour and the stage. Which is exactly why we're putting their fashionable fate in your hands. Jennifer performed in a body-hugging black halter gown, glitter-soled platform pumps, and voluminous waves to serenade the Obamas' first dance with a sweet rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together." The flattering formfitting shape of the dress complemented her svelte silhouette but never felt too sexy for the event. While Jennifer's ensemble was totally breathtaking, if you're looking a jaw-dropper, then look no further than Alicia Keys's red beaded Michael Kors gown and matching red peep-toe heels. The songstress performed a remixed version of "Girl on Fire," called "Obama's on Fire," in a shimmery long-sleeved, ruched-bodice number that — while somewhat modest from the front — revealed a sexy cutout in the back. Her diamond drop earrings and diamond-encrusted bangles polished off her red-hot statement look. So, whose ensemble gets your vote: Jennifer's black, body-skimming gown or Alicia's beaded red one?

Allison Williams, Katy Perry, and More Step Out For Obama's Inauguration

It's no secret President Obama has a lot of celebrities on his side, and for his inauguration festivities, supporters like Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, and Allison Williams hit the party scene in Washington DC to celebrate the momentous event.

It's no secret President Obama has a lot of celebrities on his side, and for his inauguration festivities, supporters like Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, and Allison Williams hit the party scene in Washington DC to celebrate the momentous event. At the Commander in Chief's Ball, Alicia Keys turned out an amazing performance — singing a remix of "Girl on Fire" as "Obama's on Fire" — and rocked a beaded red dress from Michael Kors. Not long after, Jennifer Hudson serenaded the first couple with her rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" in a body-hugging black halter gown and glitter-soled platform pumps. Between the balls, the soirees, and one star-studded hip-hop party, there are enough enviable looks to go around. Inauguration Celebration: See All of Michelle Obama's Looks

What's a woman to wear when she becomes first lady for the second time around?

What's a woman to wear when she becomes first lady for the second time around? At Monday night's inaugural ball, Michelle Obama wore a red chiffon and velvet gown by Jason Wu, who created the dress she wore to the her husband's first inauguration in 2009.

"Mrs. Obama likes to keep her secrets," he said in an interview with WWD, explaining that he didn't know she'd chosen the design. "She fooled me again. She's really good at it. I was so nervous. You'd think I wouldn't be since I'd experienced it before but I really was."

Obama paired the gown with shoes from Jimmy Choo and a handmade diamond-embellished ring by Kimberly McDonald.

Obama wore a Thom Browne coat and dress for the official inaugural ceremonies earlier in the day, and she wore a mix of equally celebrated designers for the weekend leading up to Monday's big celebrations. The coat was inspired by fabrics used for men's neckties, and Browne told CNN reporter Alina Cho that he picked navy blue because of the likelihood President Obama would wear a similar color.

"She's such a strong woman," he said in an interview with The New York Times. "I wanted her to feel good in it and to feel comfortable, strong, feminine, and beautiful." Browne was asked to submit a design several months ago, but didn't know that she would wear the coat and dress until today.

The first lady also wore shoes from J.Crew and a necklace designed by Cathy Waterman. The entire outfit will be donated to the National Archives at the end of the inaugural festivities, according to The Associated Press.
